Big Nuisence for scrapbook

Recommended Posts

Make new things you have not examine slightly sparkle, and give a statisfying ding once you do.

I like completing the scrapbook, but basically examining literally everything i see in order to do it, forgetting what i have and not have examined and examining the same things is a painful experience.

Eh, I think the scrapbook just needs a better replacement tbh. Something closer to the existing compendium, everything sparkling till you've examined it would be a bit more obnoxious than an unhelpful popup at the top of the screen every time you walk by something with a fresh character. I tend to examine things anyway but that is because I've played don't starve since its earliest beta and I enjoy reading the character quotes and learned that they are sometimes informative to an items use.

An idea would be a "monster manual" you can craft that opens a list of all enemies in the game after you've killed them at least once, giving you health, damage, sanity auras, loyalties, diets and any other pertinent information on the target.

Tbh it might be better if they made everything auto fill when they appear.

which is why I prefer how the cookbook and plant registry work, satisfying, short and self contained, and feels earned and more diagetic than examining everything once cause I also don't examine absolutely everything, and there will always be gaps with how much stuff and inconsequential stuff there is included in the compendium.

One of the bigger problems i have with the scrapbook and the character skill trees is how they aren't in anyway tied to the gameplay and earned organically, you just idle in a world for 10 days and you gain a point, easy enough to setup a world where you cannot die because you disabled lethal damages and any threats that could spawn and kill you and grind out all 15 points without earning it, and even then if you do survive legit to earn them its just entirely divorced from the gameplay and gives you boosts that don't feel connected to what you're doing. Same with scrap book entries you look at a thing and it halts your gameplay to check a menu every five seconds that doesn't even give you that much info on what you examined.

Compare it to the Cookbook and Plant Registry.

The cookbook automatically fills in as you cook crockpot dishes, and withholds food info till you eat it once, then you can see all the information on that dish, and it records the last 6 successful times you cooked that dish for easy reference.

The plant registry asks you to research every garden plant at each stage to learn more, after which it gives you detailed information on the plants needs and appearance, all done very easily ingame as you need the gardeneer hat on to research. and the benefit is this information is the same regardless of your survivor the only thing that changes is when you weigh giant crops the survivor you were when you weighed it is displayed as well as the crops weight.
