New Beta's New Wickerbottom Balance Problem

Recommended Posts

Wickerbottom's Applied Silviculture should NOT work with the Gem Trees. If you got like 5 of them, and craft 10 applied silvicultures, you can get insane amount of gems, absolutely insane amount of green gems in a super short amount of time, making every resource in the game infinite with no cost.

It will be balanced due to how hard it is to get them IF the books do not work. There should be no way to make them bear fruit faster. At least the Gem Tree one. The nightvision tree is okay.

With how much of a pain ocean treasures are i think this will give people an incentive to actually go and find sunken chests. I think the trees should be more rare

they are 10% from each sunken chest, makes them kinda rare in my opinion

I haven't messed around with the beta

But something that would balance this out would requiring Tree Jam to fertizile them (not necessarily 1:1 but some ratio)

Right now tree jam has next to no uses, and this resource is time constrained by glommer so this could resolve those issues completely, while allowing Wickerbottoms books to offer some utility

trees that take 2-3 years to grow should be worth it so I don't think it should be nerfed

apparently they can grow in 12 days if you plant them in the correct season and on the correct turf at the same time

Edit: i heard that from someone though, not sure

Regardless, I really hope they don't actually grow in 2-3 years. Waiting is not a fun, interactive, difficult, or interesting game mechanic. If they actually grow sooner in the right season, like within a single season max, then I'll tolerate it. I think Wicker should get some interaction, like growing 2-3 trees or halving the time before the next harvest.

Both new trees are too OP with Wicker but nearly useless without Wicker, due to their acquirement is restricted to middle~late game and their super long growing time and fruit producing periods. They still need some tweaks I think.

How long do you need to wait for it to bear fruit after it has grown and after harvests?

25 for 3 gems and occassional nightvision? killing dragonfly or using moggles seems to be a lot faster and engaging. there should be other interactive ways to get these fruits faster without the just waiting. using wicker's books(with some moderation of course), tree jam, certain seasons, turf, tree specific practices. just waiting for 25 days makes me think I'm gonna forget about these fruits.

I know klei and the community wants to keep things balanced but we already have ways to get gems and nightvision way faster. varg farms, the ruins, dragonfly, moggles(which you can get in your first autumn), etc. i think these restrictions won't make the trees as fun to use and a lot more forgettable. if they can't be too strong for being passive income, then make them less passive! give us more ways to make them better!

25 days is too long

12.5 is more like it

but still, imagine having like 20 of those trees producing 60 gem geodes every 12.5 days while you do other stuff, it's not bad

yeah, that doesn't sound bad. i just hope klei gives the player more agency over how good the trees are. 12.5 on average with less and more in certain conditions with more ways to accelerate it sounds epic

Doesn't sound more broken than a varg farm to me.

it is more broken. Standing still at an afk farm for like 10 days and switching into Wilson will net you like 8? green gems. Standing still near some gem trees and reading Wicker's books will net you like 20 green gems in 1 day,

Unlike these trees, Varg farms don't let you mass produce green gems which are the root of the problem.

That's of course, if you don't count Wilson's abysmal gem transmutation, which has it's own flaws.
