What is a netflix game? i hope this doesn't make my steam copy of dst have weird netflix stuff in it

I'm sure they will stay seperate. Also I don't really know what netflix game /is/ but I believe it is just games-that-can-be-played-in-the-netflix-app. Not actually containing Netflix-stuff (or if it does then probably just cosmetic things). I doubt they will change their steam game just because of some other platform to put their games on. (or else there would be "switch" or "xbox" etc. "stuff" in the steam dst version too. Or wouldn't it?) but then I didn't even know Netflix had games until this thread.

It is a subscription based service (Netflix) that lets you pay a monthly fee to watch movies & Tv shows (on Netflix) they even have Netflix exclusive movies & shows, it’s actually one of the movie channels that is a must own for me and my family, anyway if you have such a subscription then it also entitled you to play games that are available through Netflix, while they aren’t generally known as a Gaming platform, there are a few games that you can play by signing into your Netflix account.

And with that said… literally the only reason I think DST would be on Netflix’s monthly streaming service & not just a paid premium app like DS & Shipwrecked was, is because there is a very high chance that Klei is actually going to do a Netflix cartoon series (like the animated shorts) for the DS franchise.

And if that IS what is happening here then I highly suggest to anyone at Klei who will listen, that they do it like an old (now discontinued) Game/Tv Show Hybrid “Defiance”

Defiance may not have lasted, but it had a really good premises going of what happened in the show, also happened in the game (please go Google Defiance)

With DST coming to Netflix, this seems like a golden opportunity to do exactly that.. and technically Klei already “sort of” does it with their Animated Shorts, but an actual Netflix show to accompany the game would be Amazing!

Its hard for me to explain just exactly HOW defiance and it’s game connected but I’ll try, the game would have NPC’s laying in beds sick sweating and complaining about burning up on the inside, then about a week or two later the TV show would have those sickly NPC’s (played by real actors) catch a zombie virus and then zombies over run the Tv show for a few weeks, THEN they update the game alongside it so the sick NPC’s animated to life and for a while the game had zombies in its open world, there would eventually be an in game quest where you go and find the Cure to said virus and you bring it to the main character (Actor on the TV show) so once the next TV series episode aired, the Main Actor already had the cure vial in hand and ready to treat the infected.

Defiance Failed for a variety of reasons- #1 being a games as a service always online MMO on Xbox 360 that was always down for 3-4 hours of maintenance.

#2- Killing off the actual good Tv series actors that made the show even worth watching in the first place.

and… #3 Anyone who did not keep up with both what was going on in the game AND in the show were just lost and confused if they only played the game or just watched the show.

This was a series played on Xbox 360 and watched on Live TV at a special air time,… but life has changed now… by a lot and you can now stream a show you missed!

And if you want to get technical- Anyone who Only plays DST but does not watch the accompanying animated shorts would be just as lost and confused as people who watched or played Defiance.

Klei is already dipping their toes in that water (slightly) so May as well jump on in the pool.

Netflix Series WHEN?!

If they do it like you explained with your comparison to the other example, that means with the closely connected game AND series I probably wouldn't mind it at all (or at least the chances are high I wouldn't be bothered by it). If indeed they DO stay closely connected because then I likely don't have to worry about my fears of the game drifting off into some completely different spin-offs. In those cases I suppose they may already be working on some kind of pilot? (they may have presented Netflix this before). But then I wonder if they will work on parallel series for the other games as well, if yes, that sounds as if they would work on too many projects at once. OR they use the series (of what I assume would likely be DST since it seems to have a big userbase) as an opportunity to also promote some of their other games to give more attention to their company in general. (probably always leaving it as a future option to also create netflix film content for those other games in future if they become popular enough I suppose?)

and this is why dst keeps getting more and more casual compared to ds... ugh i wish klei would at least have older versions of the game as betas then when the game eventually becomes super casual i can use the older versions

Or at the very least… stop updating The original DS so we still have that.

If there's a possibility for a DS/T series in the works, I'd prefer if they stick to the old art style, especially the sketchy looks with lines and such. That charm is the one that brought me to this game in the first place; despite the roughness, there's also the beauty in them. The Constant felt so foreboding and sinister back in the old DS trailers, I wish they can bring that vibe again.

Also maybe the Netflix Games version is just an offline version of DST. Not bad in my opinion, but at the very least make DS and its DLCs available on the platform too. The possibility of playing Hamlet on mobile would be cool in my opinion.
