Don't Starve Together mobile? Netflix?

Recommended Posts

Hopefully this only applies to a Netflix GAME (although I have no idea what that even is. I thought Netflix was for films).

I fear a netflix SHOW (unless a cartoon with instrument voices maybe) would give me anxiety that something about it would become extremly AU / would take away the focus from the actual game. It wouldn't be the first time, if a show was coming, that I could probably notice a splitting up between the old-fandom-fans and the film-fans, with the original fandom more and more adapting towards the film version.

I, for one, would love a Don't Starve series in the style of the video trailers. There has already been instances of the characters with real voices and it sounded good too.

OK considering those were ACTUALLY good (plus I considered Wilson's and Maxwell's voices rather fitting) I wouldn't mind a similiar approach. As long as the series stays close enough to those game videos / the game's content.

What I was scared of was more or less a Netflix Series that would be so different from the games (in all aspects from quotes, to personalities, to characters, to art design, to humour etc.) that it would make a complete AU, since those AUs that get popular via films/series often seem to become the direction in which the fandom develops (not necessarily the games themselves but "spinoff" stuff and merchandise etc. often up to the point that it completely overshadows the original fandom)

Don't worry I'm sure the don't starve show featuring their main character sheriff Wade Whipple and his trusty side kick Wormwood will do great.

I am not that good at understanding jokes most of the time, I must admit but I assume this was one. Though I don't know what it is refering to.

Anyway whatever they will do I at least hope they will stick with the characters from the games, and not introduce new survivors for "drama" plots or something.

What actually WOULD be interesting would the survivors struggle to start "learning" / handling their abilities. I'd adore seeing a plot that would progress with them becoming better and better at them, actually focusing on them struggling with survival by not being perfect at their abilities right from the begining.

To fair it was a fairly vague joke I was joking it would end up like how they handled the knuckles show where the title character took a backseat to a entirely new character completely unrelated to the main series. Personally I haven't even watched it but I remember a lot of people being upset about it.image.png.c0fa81ec9998a053a46b7af5c96f0a82.png.

Oh no D: Now I kind of get it. (I am not a fan of most AU scenarious (especially in films) from games I like so I haven't watched the Sonic films, but I now I get in which direction this joke was going.)

That's kind of exactly part of what I feared when my mind thought of a Netflix series becoming popular in what direction it could lead the fandom.

(although I have kind of more faith in Klei sticking closer to their actual games and not making the same mistake.)

While I agree I kind of understand why they go that route with media using the knuckles show as a example from what I heard alot of people enjoyed the knuckles show with mostly fans of the game universe seeming to not like it so the choice comes down to who to appeal to the gaming audience or the general audience and when it comes to turning a profit the general audience is usually the safest bet for better or worse. That's not to say a fully faithful adaptation can't work but a less faithful one is more likely to draw in new audiences while the name alone will draw in old fans.

Mhm that's true indeed. I understand that profit is of course the main reason for new stuff being released. Again, maybe I am extremly biased towards new media based on fandoms I like (as I don't like most of those new releases at all), but with this dangerous scenario that could happen to the fandom I hope even more that the Netflix announcement will really just refer to a game and not a series/film. (as much as I would probably adore it, if it happened to not stray from the games more then necessarily)

Yeah I’m just going to burst everyone’s bubble here.

Klei had a difficult time porting Shipwrecked to Mobile devices, and as of this moment they have STILL Yet to port Hamlet to mobile Devices.. so the Odds that they’ll port DST before they port Hamlet which would obviously be easier to do seeing as it’s not multiplayer.. are Slim to None.

Then to top that off… ROTWOOD?!?! Bro… Why would that ever release to mobile platforms before it releases on consoles first? -_-
