What is the most useless item in all of Don't Starve Together?

Recommended Posts

Everything, even the worst items, have a use. Pretty Parasol is good for the Pearl Quests. Rabbit traps are good for making the Prestihatinator. But not all items are made equal. There are items that are inefficient in its niche, are overshadowed, outdated, or actively harm the player. Here are my two questions for the community:

  1. What is the CURRENT most useless item in Don't Starve Together? This is more relevant and can give players and devs a good look at underutilized or neglected items.
  2. What is the most useless item in all of Don't Starve? At any point in time, in any dlc, and in single or multiplayer.

The only caveat is that it can't be bugged; it must be useless or awful at its intended use. It can be any consumable, weapon, tool, etc. Anything that can be put in your inventory essentially(Though if you have something interesting to bring up that doesn't fit the criteria, consider sharing!).

For me.... the Belt of Hunger. I've never seen a single player, experienced or new to the game, ever use it. It's not hard to see why though. You reduce hunger drain, something that is fairly easy to manage, has a cheap crafting recipe but something you'd have to go out of your way to get and takes up the chest slot. No backpacks.
It's too hard to get for beginning players, who would avoid the caves and ruins, which is when you're most likely to struggle with hunger. It's too inefficient and impractical for experienced players, who can usually manage hunger easily and value the body slot for backpacks.

Grass Suit is a close second but I'll put it on if I find it in a setpiece and have no backpack. I don't think a Belt of Hunger has ever touched my body slot. If you use Belt of Hunger that's cool. I respect everyone's playerstyle.

Probably one of the lazy crockpot recipes? Like... I think there are some that are worse than Ratouile, aren't there (since Ratatouile is at least kinda passable if you used 4 Red Mushrooms)?

Like... The one with 4 fruits or something? I think it's nigh-impossible to make that a better use of your fruits than just eating them?

Glommer's Wings. No two ways about it.

In RoG, this item was used to make the Old Bell. Which was actually pretty good.

But the Old Bell was removed in DST. And Glommer's wings never got a new use. So the only purpose they serve is to be burned for fuel. But even them, they don't have the courtesy to fully fuel a fire put like Glommer's Goop does.

The worst item propley has to be the wooden cutless you get from the pirate monkey's stash, they do 27 damage and the only speical thing about them is that they force the thing your hitting to drop its items, other then that they're basically clutter.

I just looked at all the items in the game and there is no definitive worst one. So I'll say Wax. Wax is a refined honeycomb. And while it has uses, there is absolutely zero reason for it to exist when honeycombs could have worked just fine in its place. Used to been an actual resource drain as you had to deconstruct klaus bundles twice to make a bee box. I also hate waxing with passion.

Seedshell is indeed trash, but it could have been used to catch birds which you might argue is useless, but I'll say that worst item can't have unique mechanics. Now it just deals aoe hambat damage but still, it's not worse than fire darts.

Belt of hunger can probably be used on Wortox which dosen't sound useful but hey it's an option and I'm glad it exists.

the frog leg fig dish is one of the worst crockpot dishes to come to mind, besides the punishment dishes like leafy meatloaf and monster lasagna. figgy frogwich has terrible hunger, health, and sanity. eating every individual ingredient gives more hunger and the other stats aren't worth it.

this could be used as data for what stinks in dst a lot...

personally i really hate the waterfow can, what a useless reward for fighting falco.

if i wanted more watering can space i can just craft more watering cans.

the item would be more useful if it could water in a 3x3 radius.

i agree that it should water in a 3 x 3 radius or get some other buff. funny enough, the malbatross bill being so useless is why i used it for the waterfowl can. i had 3 of those from Klaus and had no other use.

Its still the worst even with double damage buff.

I dunno anything about Warly, so I'll just take you for your word there.

Oh wow, this does seem to be pretty terrible. Like... Goodness, absolute garbage. It really does seem to be absolutely useless.

breezy vest

Oh... Right, I forgot about this one... I really can't think of any reason why anyone would ever want to use a Breezy Vest, and I don't think it can even spawn as a set piece, so... Yeah. That one gets my vote alright. It's just downright terrible.

Does anyone actually use this item? (Seed Pack-it)

Why wouldn't you? It has enough room for every crop seed and slows their spoilage like a fridge would, and it's convenient and easy to make.

Fistful of jam? Has some early game use cases for Warly and Wurt. Warly will actually eat it, and it lasts much, much longer than berries if Wurt wants to stock up a bit for long trips early on. It gives less hunger than 4 berries individually, but fish, eggs, and ice can all be used as filler, and even using all berries it more than doubles shelf life.

I'd call the most useless item either the rabbit earmuffs or the fashion melon. Time spent making the former could be better spent making something with much more insulation, and in the case of the latter, it only lasts 3 days, rots whether you're wearing it or not, and drains your sanity and makes you wet. The only use case I can think of for that is spending summer on the lunar island for whatever reason. Edit: Oh, and you have to procure a melon, an RNG-burdened task at the stage of the game this would have any real value.
