A bit of a crazy alignment idea for wurt related to Eternal Gnaw

Recommended Posts

I have a slightly unusual idea that goes beyond the lunar and shadow servant, I suggest adding a unique patron for Wurt, whom everyone knows, but many have forgotten:

Follower of the Forgotten

Wurt gets Gnaw's Favor. Although his strength is minimal in constant, he will be able to reward his followers

When wurt uses a bomb with mosquitoes, a curse falls on them when they land, and they turn into Blackfly. They have more health, but they are much stronger, and they also have vampirism, with each hit they restore some health. There can only be 4 Blackfly at the same time

(Yes, this is the interesting mob that wasn't added to the Gorge, it's too cool to just stay in the game files)

Charmed Aligned

Also, all mermaids are aligned and receive protection from shadow and moon creatures by 15%

Also, thanks to "Charmed Aligned", Wurth loses 15% less hunger, king - 25%, and ordinary mermaids and guardians remain tamed longer.

(As a last resort, the Blackfly skill can be applied to the moon side. Although I think wurth needs a unique worldview)

I rather not have alignment of an barely cannon entity which isn't even connected to wurt in any way.

The Gnau is directly related to the mermaids. Initially, Eternal Gnaw created a race of merms

This is genuinely such an amazing and unique idea! I love it.
Wurt shows intense dislike for all things Lunar, and she clearly doesn't like Shadow stuff either (judging from her quotes). And it would make sense for her to side with the Gnaw instead.

There're even some inaccessible dialogue lines that refers to the gnaw and Wurt's relationship to the Gorge event.
Wurt when inspecting the Dilapidated Cathedral:
"Mermfolk have story passed down... about mouth in the sky..."
Wurt when inspecting a Spotty Shrub:
"Something about it feel like home."

Not true that is just headcanon we have no reason to believe that merms are from gorge because the only way out of the gorge is the portal and if you turn into merm then it is too late for you

Also if a person turns into a frog then does that mean that all people were frogs and frogs originated from peoplen

Also if merms were from gorge then merms from shipwrecked don't make any sense since they are clearly more intelligent and have their own culture

I think merms originating from gorge is a dumb theory that would make merms way less interesting if Canon

The only reason the gnaw transforms people into merms is for them to be better workers (they are faster and stronger and more easily manipulated)

Dilapidated Cathedral- "Mermfolk have story passed down... about mouth in the sky..."  These are the words that Wurt says.

I can assume that the merms got to other worlds through the sea. the sea in constant is a strange thing (where did the ships from our world come from in Shipwrecked?) . By sea, Mermaids were able to get into the "constant" and "Shipwrecked" (this explains why there are no mermaids in Hamlet) Pipton quote: "Many of our sick disappeared into the sea. Odd, that.

It's a bit more than a headcanon. In The Gorge, Pipton (one of the merm traders) says "Many of our sick disappeared into the sea. Odd, that." which seems to heavily imply that after their Mermification, the people of Gorge leave Gnaw's altar (which would make them unable to continue serving the Gnaw). However you are right about the fact that we do not know if the Merms in the Constant are the same Merms from The Gorge (outside of that one inaccessible line where Wurt talks about the mouth in the sky). It could be argued that Mumsy saying "The way out. I can charge it with Favors." when describing The Ancient Key could imply that some Merms in the Constant did originate from The Gorge, but there's little evidence to prove that.
Additionally it's important to note that Shipwrecked's Volcano Biome has a structure called "Altar of Snackrifice," which while not related to the Gnaw in any direct way, and while having a completely different purpose, could be related to The Altar of Gnaw from The Gorge (or it might be completely unrelated. We simply don't know enough to come to a conclusion).

We will also get a semblance of an altar of offerings in the wurt skill tree, this is not directly related to Eternal Gnaw, rather as a tribute or mutual respect for old times' sake

Well the destruction in gorge looks recentish and we know merms were in the constant before pigs and pigs were in the constant before maxwell so they couldn't be from the gorge

And if the merms were from the gorge then it absolutely makes no sense that we never see anyone turn into female merm (merm guard)

And if this theory gets confirmed it then merms will go from creatures with interesting past into a boring humanoid creature

Also merms are the most likely candidate for building touch stones or at least adding the pig heads to it since we know ancients were gone before the pigs arrived and pigs don't use pig heads and maxwell didn't make them because he would have bragged about it

Time goes differently in the constant, I suspect that in The Gorge too. + the fact of destruction in the world of The Gorge is more than one generation of goats, judging by the quote from Mumsy "The Gnaw's been around since I was just a lamb." + the fact that time in The Gorge may be slower than in constant is indicated by the fact that this world has already been visited by Warly before the survivors.judging by the official art

and also according to one of Mamsy's quotes, "Another of your kind passed through here once." Mermaids could get into the constant and live from the periud of the ancients to the present day. At the same time, about 100 years have passed in The Gorge (or at least 50 years judging by the age of Mumsy)

This theory will not cancel the fact that after leaving The Gorge, merms in The constant themselves developed, caught the fall of the ancients, the arrival of pigs, created altars and their culture, forgetting about who they used to be, and all they have left from the past is history...About the mouth in the sky

Having Gnaw would be cool, and pretty much canon.
But it will never happen with how the current skill trees are made. It was obvious from the beginning that restricting skill trees to only moon vs shadow, and putting that planar mechanic into skill trees will create more problems than solutions.
So we will have to wait several years until Klei figure that out, and do another rework.

Doesn't mean we cannot try to get klei's attention.

Try that in several years.
I think Klei are just as aware as you that they have Gnaw in the game. It won't be added for Wurt alone, and skill trees are set in stone with no room for extra higher powers.

I wish i was wrong here though, but my spidey sense tells me i'm not.

The merms were once goats, and the gnaw corrupted them with the merm plaque and ruined their lives and minds, so i don't see the merms wanting to align with it.

It is canon. The merms swam from the gorge to the mainland.

I understand your words. But I will still hope for the best, because, in my opinion, Wurt is a very unusual character (+ dls character), so I think such an unusual thing is possible

The goats worshipped Gnaw, despite the fact that he turned their brethren into mermaids. And mermaids can worship him out of reverence, a sense of intimacy. in general, I think that many generations have passed so that they could forget that they were goats

Unused quotes do not count. Wurt also had unused quotes relating to night vision and hating Catcoons which are both pretty clearly not true in the actual game.

Quotes about night vision have been completely deleted. If you summon items from The Gorge, then the characters will be able to inspect them, including Wurt, if the developers had not planned this, they would have deleted or not added at all (as was the case with Walter or Wanda).

I mean to be fair as far as we know he may not be the origin of merms completely there's still the possibility merms already existed and he learned of them and decided to twist other creatures into them as well.

Either way we'll probably find out for certain how klei is going to handle that when we get the character...I hope.

I mean techincally from the gnaw side of things merms are every species he came across not just goats.

Yes, you're right, no one will answer better than the developers themselves

The ones in our world are goats, since they have horns.

That's really just a theory though we have no proof that merms with horns are goats as would that make any merm without them a pigman? What does that make fishermerms? Why would the gnaw not be able to remove their horns if they could remove the rest of their bodies?

interesting questions to which we do not have a clear answer, but there is something to discuss and think about

Merms with horns are female. Sammy and Pipton are men, they don't have horns, Wurt and Juliet are women, they have horns.
