Imagine you domesticated a beefalo, better pudgy beefalo cause it doesn't have much usage so it would be a heave truck. Then you craft sled which can be attached to the beefalo. And this sled acts as a boat: you can drop anything on it and you can stand on it. A person who rides a beedalo now is able to carry the sled and all items (and characters) on it. This is very fun for interactions, imagine that it's sort of costly Wanda teleporter lol, because you can bring your friends where you want while they chill. Also this way you can collect all your wood for example and move it from one place to another without trashing your inventory and running multiple times. The idea to have a moveable area akin to a boat instead of a container is nice, although in the case of boats containers can be fitted into said area.
