Wes Skill Tree Idea: Fortunate Misfortune

Recommended Posts

Had an idea for a Wes skill tree about him weaponizing his bad luck.
Wes is the challenge character, his whole job is to be a harder character to play than everyone else. Therefore, his skill tree should both reflect and enforce that. This will just be a few random ideas, so I would love to hear some of your ideas as well!

The Misfortune Tree

This tree specializes on Wes' supernaturally bad luck, and how he can focus his misfortune onto his enemies and not his allies.

  • Fight or Flight: All nearby hostile creatures, even if it's fighting something else, will target Wes if they can. Wes gains a speed boost when three or more hostile enemies are attacking him.
  • Rainy Day: When raining, Wes is struck by lightning even more often, while also taking less damage from it. When struck, unless insulated, the lighting will arch to nearby enemies, damaging them as well. Will also charge a nearby Wx-78.
  • Falling Rocks: When in combat, a rock will occasionally fall wherever Wes is standing, it takes a moment for it to fall, allowing Wes to kite an enemy under it instead. It has a small AoE and deals decent damage. On the surface, the rock is a small meteorite. While underground, it's a falling stalactite.
  • Butter Fingers: Held wet items will slip out of your hands more often, when they do they will likely hit something before they hit the ground. If it hits a creature, it will deal damage and stun them for a moment. [it will usually target hostile creatures, and will always miss allies.]

The Mime Tree

Wes learns to use his professional skills for more practical means. These aren't particularly powerful though, but they are unique.

  • Phantom Tools: Wes can "craft" an invisible, phantom mimed multi tool using his sanity. it has low durability, and cost sanity for each use, but are otherwise completely free. The tool will disappear when dropped, or if your sanity drops too low and can't be stored in other inventories. [The tool is able to work like an axe, pick, shovel, and hammer all at once.]
  • Phantom Box: Wes can create a protective box around themselves that will block enemy attacks for a short while. Each hit will cost sanity, if you run out, then the box breaks early. you cannot move or attack when in the box.

Affinities:

Lunar and shadow affinities are identical, but should provide good power for those able to bear its curse.

Moon Glass Cannon: Cuts your maximum health to 35 points and gives you 1.5x damage with lunar aligned weapons. lets you "craft" a phantom mimed lunar weapon.

Shadow Queen's Gambit: Cuts your maximum heath to 35 points and gives you 1.5x damage with shadow aligned weapons. lets you "craft" a phantom mimed shadow weapon.

One time sanity loss and infinite durability until out of hand then disappears I think is better

That could also work, really emphasizes its intangibility.

I don't really know how to handle his balloons without it just being a straight buff, which is what I'm trying to avoid with this speculation. But weaponized balloons is a neat concept, maybe they act like homing attacks and explode when they touch something.

What if you have it where he can do it when he’s wet to reduce wetness

Also I thought of another thing what if he gains the ability to through any of his balloons he can already craft like like a water balloon and make it pop damaging enemies (except for the speedy that when hitting an Allie it goes around them like life preserver and rushes them out of danger and when on an enemy it goes on there neck and speedily drags them out of Agro distance like a lead)

also what if you added all but your alignments to @blacknight7890’s and I’s ideas in one big skill tree

I'm not certain what you are saying here, do you mean that each balloon attracts the creature it looks like?

Either that or takes of a large chunk  of sanity to use each sides representative powers to bring them to life

I like your idea of expanding his misfortune to punish him but be useful if you take advantage of it
