A suggestion to Klei about Fuelweavers Bone-Cage attack.

Recommended Posts

A little backstory to this.

I'm interested in playing Woodie as my next character in DST. After doing some due diligence research I found a lot of information on his skill tree. The important part being Weremooses 4th ability but we'll get back to that. Part of my due diligence was of course watching a boss-rush video of Weremoose only. After finishing the video I realized something "Huh? Where's Fuelweaver?". Thinking about it for more than 5 seconds I realized that you really can't do Fuelweavers fight as Weremoose, as Fuelweavers mechanics will do several detrimental things.

Firstly, Weremoose's timer-drain increases when he isn't fighting. If you are locked in a cage forced to stand still, you can't fight. This significantly reduces Woodie's form time, but isn't a deal breaker as you can just pack more idols to re-transform.

Secondly, without the ability to equip a nightmare amulet, you can't break his shield-pillars to remove his invulnerability without being low sanity. It makes the fight a bit more difficult but if you unlock the shadow-side of Woodie's skill-tree, nightmare creatures will ignore you as long as you don't hit them, making the only stop-gap the short stun you receive from time to time during the fight. Not ideal, but manageable.

The deal breaker, is the fact that you can't get out of the his cage attack. In the typical fight, you have to use the lazy explorer to escape/teleport out of it. Weremoose can't use items, he can only stand in the cage until it expires/you lose transformation. All the while, Fuelweaver is summoning healing-shadows while you're stuck sitting in the cage. If you've ever fought him solo before, you know how bad it can be if he eats 2 or 3 of these things, let alone the amount he could get while you're stuck in the cage.

So here's my suggestion:

Make Fuelweavers Bone-Cage attack destructible by 3 instances of Planar Damage.

For those who don't know, Woodie's 4th Weremoose ability grants Planar Damage to his 3rd swing in a row while he's in his Weremoose transformation. This change would allow him to more consistently fight Fuelweaver in his Weremoose form. But also move the game in an interesting direction. So most of the time, you have to craft a Lazy Explorer to fight him. With this, it allows the characters getting Planar damage built into their skill-trees a less tool-oriented option while fighting Fuelweaver. As well as people who have killed Celestial Champion first to get Lunar Rift equipment, a way to make Fuelweavers fight a bit easier.

Those are my thoughts on the suggestion. The 3 instances of Planar Damage seem like the most consistent way to make breaking the cage across every character and for future character updates (As we can see Wigfrid is getting +20 planar damage with her upgraded lightning spear, per swing).

Let me know what you guys think, if it's unviable from a coding perspective or just causes a negative outcome overall that I'm not seeing.

Only the third hit by moose is planar. By the time you would've landed 9 uninterrupted hits on the cage, it would've been long gone.

This would also make normal fighting of FW a nightmare. If I'm holding ctrl F while caged, all of a sudden I'm no longer attacking fuelweaver, I'm hitting the bones.

I think you should practice dodging the bone cage with the weremoose charge

What??? That's crazy.  How is weremoose even viable against fuelweaver when he can go inside your brain?
