Spring Bee Barrier?

Recommended Posts

What stops bees in spring?  I'm doing a challenge on Pearl's Island.  I made it to spring, but the bees are driving me nuts!  What don't the cross?  I think I had success before with a line of pine trees planted as close as possible, I can't get to the mainland (for the challenge), so I need something from the ocean or islands.  Will Lune Trees work?

I think they don't fly above fences as long as it's not enclosed- don't quote me on that tho.

Or you can invest in a decorative lureplant that will eat the bees as they spawn

The wiki says that they can fly over walls when neutral, but cannot cross the ocean.  I think I've seen them cross the ocean (that could be a bug).  I'll try on a test-world.

I love the lureplant idea!  I wonder why the one on Pearl's Island doesn't grow eyeplants?  I can probably dig up the turf around the beehive to fix that.

Don't know which wiki you checked but that is true for old Don't Starve where there is no ocean. Bee's can fly anywhere and everywhere (except the void in the caves, and out of bounds on the surface). Best way to stop bees in spring is to kill them or kite them until they get bored, where they will fly back home, unload and wait for you to return where they will idle around because their home is full.

Yes! Flying mobs (most of the time) try to follow default walking pathing, meaning if there's an exit, they'll try to reach it. If not, they'll remember that they, -the flying mob-, can in fact, fly.

Play Wormwood :eagerness:
Seriously though, Wormwood and bees are like a match made in heaven.

no they aren't I cant plant seeds because the stupid bees follow me and the stupid friendly fruitfly follows me and they all block placement IM GOING INSANE I HATE INSECTS

Wormwood and bees aren't a match made in heaven, BRAMBLE HUSKS and bees are.

Bees getting in your way? Slip on your thorny wear and show them that they may sting first, but YOU sting WORST! Laugh with tyrannical glee as the swarms of pitiful insects break themselves against you like the swarms of pitiful insects they are, and if you're feeling extra generous with your wrath, set fire to their remains for good measure!

Ya know, Bee Kind would actually be a useful skill if you could catch butterflies and bees by hand, and not trigger the swarms. It'd be a fine non-violent solution to those irritating things always getting in the way of planting/building.

You are 100% correct.  I've updated the Wiki article with pictures:

Eats every bee the moment it spawns.  So quickly that I had a hard time getting a screenshot!  Also, the aggro'd bees don't seem to drop honey in spring, so you could kill the lureplant at the beginning of summer (before it smoulders) and plant it again next spring.

My original unstated problem was the bees killing my moleworms in spring.  The lureplant would do that too, so I still need a wall.  But this was a very interesting and creative solution to the problem as-stated!
