Creatorofswamps Posted November 2, 2023 Share Posted November 2, 2023 My suggestion is to add "genuine Pieces" as shadow rift bosses. since the shadows on the surface are weaker, they show true strength in the Underground with an open fault.(This is also equivalent to how moon strengthened the old bosses) They have first form but which surpasses all their previous ones. Spawn in ruins (or in a more open place) when the rift is open and if the player rings Shadow Atrium to the ruins (the appearance condition can be changed). Items, found in the @-Variant code may fall out of them: The Knight would've dropped the Shadow Crest. The Rock, the Shadow Lance. And the Bishop, the Shadow Mitre and Sceptre. Rasp being the Rook, Shriek the Bishop, and Jitters as the Knight. Still, fun drawings! There's a new setpiece in the ruins same as sussy marble statues but made from dreadstone (it only appears after the rifts) you repair them with dreadstone this time instead of carrying the pieces. After they are all repaired and and there's a rift active (new moon or not) Jitters: Smashes into knight the statue rolling going full speed. Rasp: Stretches its giant mouth swallowing the rook statue. Shriek: Same animation as the brightshade haunting corpse. Then the dreadstone crumbles and the fight begins. Its a big scary monster that hunts you down and is very hard to kill. What if klei introduced a giant new pure horror tentacle boss that is invincible, chases you and you are forced to run from it until you find and kill 3 tentacles that are leeching power from the shadow world rifts. These tentacles dont respawn and can spawn anywhere in the caves forcing you to explore while running for dear life from the horror boss. The horror boss would despawn if you got too far away but would slenderman teleport back to you every once in a while with the sound of a big gong. Dst doesnt use enough sound cues. After destroying its tentacles you can fight the boss head on. It would feel great to be made truly powerless against a boss even with all my new found op gear. Bringing back some fear to DST. Edit: the horror boss would also speed up like phase 2 CC depending on ur speed boosts (like wx, beefalo etc..) All the lunar rift Host of Horrors bosses are very different from the original ones they're mutated versions of, after all. To start the fight, players have to go into the Caves by a Void Rift and build the three statues like they do topside to start the regular fight... but in the Caves, they build the statues by the Void Rift... then wait for Infused Shadelings to "infect/possess/crawl into" the three statues. As each statue gets possessed, it starts shaking around like they doing during a New Moon... and then once all three statues are "infected"... the player hammers the statues to start the Void Shadow Chess Pieces fight... Might be kinda fun. Or is this too dark and scary...? Is there too much goopy ooze coming out of their eyes? Maybe just the red dots instead? MrMNWorm Posted November 3, 2023 Share Posted November 3, 2023 @Creatorofswamps lately I've been thinking about how to do the Lunar Rift version of the mutant bosses in the Caves with the Void Rifts... and I keep thinking/seeing an Infused Shadeling creeping out of the dark and burrowing its way into the boss carcasses... but the main problem is which bosses in the Caves are feasible for "Shadow Mutant Versions"... Probably won't see it happening to Fuel Weaver because deer gawd that fight is already hard enough... Maybe Toadstool but then the question is do they need to make one for both the normal Toad AND Misery Toad... or is there just going to be some crazy 200,000 hp boss that you would have to fight AFTER completing either the normal Toad or Misery Toad... to me that seems a bit much... that's just painful considering what the normal put you through. Ancient Guardian and Werepig are both good options... and this idea of yours would make for an interesting third option with those two... pretty creative way to add a new Caves Boss in the process. Now... if we could just get Variant to mock up the artwork for that new Shadow Gear... we'd have a solid start for the Devs to build off of. Valase Posted November 3, 2023 Share Posted November 3, 2023 I mean, we can also get a brand new boss that does not require any other mob, the lunar menagerie are just ghosts possessing organic matter(dead or alive), while the shadow trio "possess" a fissure in the ground and the shadelings come out of the shadow rift. What I mean is that we don't have a clear theme yet of what the shadow(rift) side does. And, there is nothing stopping them from adding new creatures in the caves so they can be possessed.
