I've been thinking of how to make Woby more interesting and useful in the day to day while further separating her from beefalo so here's some ideas

Walter now has one additional equip slot we'll call the Woby slot which you can equip specific items to for example the lantern she'll carry in her mouth and she'll do her best to stay close to you when it's dark, the mag she'll wear and it'll increase her movement speed, and the belt of hunger she'll also wear and it'll slow her hunger drain there could be more interactions added but I feel like these would be good enough. She'll only be able to do one at a time however.

Next up Woby will be able to gather items on the ground and place them in her backpack and dig when commanded (borrowed). Woby won't be able to perform these actions if the Woby slot is occupied however.

Finally Walter will be able to access Woby's inventory while he's riding her honestly not much else to say about this one.

By the way the reason for the Woby slot being a Walter inventory slot is just so it's convenient for swapping between different things.

I'd like for big Woby to be able to leap over walls. This could make ranged combat work better since you can keep enemies away from you with walls, and being able to cross them easily is nice when the alternatives are a fragile gate, sealing yourself off as you're being chased, or using the Lazy Explorer (which needs a Walking Cane and some Orange gems, so it feels a little expensive of a solution for this).

Since Walter is a scout, I want him to be able to use Woby to track animals more efficiently. Woby will run in the footprints direction and automatically uncover them when close by. It also make tracking much faster than other characters, maybe even with half the usual amount of footprints for other characters. This can even be tied in with the new lunar Varg boss.

I feel the only way to get Walter players to stop using a beefalo over using big woby is to give big woby some sort of attack. Its very sad to see big woby get rejected an replaced by a beefalo by the majority of Walter players. 

An bite attack animation for big woby, with a slightly lower attack rate than a beefalo but you can unlock skills for it to do more damage. 27, 34 then 51 damage after 3 skills. A downside for using this bite attack could be increasing big wobys hunger drain for a brief time after attacking. Giving big woby low hunger animations and giving Walter some quotes relating to it would also be useful for us to know when we are about to get bucked off.

The problem here is this would be completely out of character for her as she's intended to be cowardly I thought of this too but the reason I didn't go through with it and instead tried to make her more useful in other ways.

This could work but maybe make it a command since it'd be annoying to other players if she starts hunts you don't intend to finish automatically.

Yeah i agree woby should be cowardly, but its just so hard to think of strong buffs to big woby that would make the current majority of Walter mains want to use big woby as their day to day mount instead of a beefalo. 

You already know my opinion of big woby currently being better than a beefalo for walter in terms of time efficiency and practicality but since 99% of walter players disagree with me. Klei need to buff big woby to the point that atleast some people will agree with me lol

A giant slingshot that you could attach to woby that fires powerful AoE rounds is the only other thing i can think of that might rival a beefalo.

Attaching a lantern/mag/belt of hunger to woby is abit useless since when riding mounts your handslot is free to hold a lantern. A beefalo with glossamer saddle would outcompete woby with a mag. And monster meat is cheap to feed woby so belt of hunger wouldnt be that useful either.

Your suggestion to be able to access woby's inventory while mounted is awesome tho.

I'm not sure if it's technically possible, but I always thought it would be fun if big Woby was able to carry one extra passenger player too, if they decide to jump up when you are riding her.
Walter would still control her, and the other player can jump down at any time.

Maybe instead of walls I think it would go a long way if she could jump across small gaps, be it narrow rivers or small voids in the caves. It would make exploring or moving from point A to B easier in many situations.

I wouldn't make Woby outright better than a beefalo, just different enough, so even if you have a beefalo in the late game you'd still user her for stuff.

I've found myself meaning to do this by instinct many times, trying to reach her inventory while mounted. It would be very useful.

Monster meat is more expensive than maintaining a tamed beefalo with grass and twigs so making it so you need monster meat less often would be somewhat useful though I guess we could just cut out the middle man and just make Woby more efficient at her base. As for the lantern Woby cannot attack directly so if Walter plans to fight on her he needs his handslot which leaves the headslot for light however if Woby could hold a lantern in her mouth he could wear his pioneer hat while fighting on her back in the dark. I will admit the mag probably isn't good enough as well though.

Ah is monster meat really more expensive? Woby isnt like an ornery were you need to feed an ornery every time you mount and dismount. You feed woby around one to two monster meat a day to maintain full speed and you can mount and dismount as much as you want in that period of time. If woby loses abit of speed it isnt the worst either so it could be a day an half between feedings.

Lightbugs still replace the usefulness of the lantern slot, which i use all the time, free up his headslot and handslot. With wobys speed and the slingshots range even AoE attacks will struggle to kill your lightbugs.

To build off your digging idea. Woby could have a mini game like wendys pipspook quest. Where woby sniffs and tracks an item for a few times then digs up a random item like gold, flint maybe even gems.

Awesome idea!!

We should be able to ghost ride the whip with woby as well hahaha
