How to play with Warly on your team effectively. (Public Servers)

Recommended Posts

You read the title of the post. If you're here to say "why play warly lol he sucks go switch to wolfgang after making bundled spicy chaud froid", this topic isnt for you. Luckily people arent like that anymore (i hope).
Warly in public servers is difficult. You have to set up everything you need, while also taking care of potentially useless, or even worse, SABOTAGING players in order to get anything done! Ever made a special dish for someone only for some random guy to steal it? It's pretty annoying. I will explain how to help your local Warly, and what every character can do to best help the poor guy, and make a tierlist on how well they can help Warly.

Spoiler

First off, you want to assess what type of Warly player it is. If its a new one, you should try to take care of them, but don't rely on them for food. If its an experienced one, you should remember the following things.

1. Let Warly make the kitchen.

Yeah, i know what you're thinking. "Oh, Warly will just use his own pots for that and noone else can cook if he leaves!". We won't. We usually will make a proper kitchen using geometric placement. It is crucial for Warly to get to make it, because his pots can actually fit into the gaps if you build it right. Most proper Warly mains will know how to do this.

2. Save the onions. (and the peppers and the garlic and the potatoes and the toma roots and the-)

This one is easier to understand. Warly's dishes are ususally better than any other dish when it comes to stats. If you can make fishsticks and salsa fresca for a total of 43 Health, 62.5 hunger and 38 sanity, Warly can make Moqueca for a total of 60 Health, 112.5 hunger, and 33 sanity. Thats 8 less sanity and 4 less food items used for way more of both the other stats. Generally, you should save the following ingredients for Warly.
Honey is also a food that you should make sure there are some left for Warly, and don't use it unless its 100% required for your survival. Especially during winter. Fruits are especially important to save if there is also Butter or Glow Berries present so he can make crepes or mousse. Speaking of, save butter for Warly, as Crepes are better than Lobster Dinner and Waffles. Save onions, toma root, potatoes, peppers and garlic for Warly for special dishes and spices.

3. Spare the crops.

This one is really simple. Don't touch the farm unless you know what you're doing. You can and will ruin the crop combo or strategy the Warly is using. Also, Wickerbottom mains, no, your horticulture abridged does not always benefit us. Stop using it like your life depends on it, it provides less seeds. Use lux eterna instead. Makes the crops grow at night.

4. Stay away from our stuff.

If you see a Warly pot with food in it that wasnt specifically mentioned to be made for you, don't touch it. It's not yours. It's Warly's.

5. Don't be a duplicate.

One Warly is enough. More than one Warly is but a drain on resources. You can't do more of the same, you just take up more resources and will end up fighting over them. Just go someone else, please.

6. Spare the goats.

This one is simple. If the goats go extinct, you basically just removed any and all reason for Warly to care about you for the rest of the world. Always leave one or two alive.

There are also some things you can do to help Warly instead of just making sure you don't inconvenience him.

Spoiler

1. Go on hunts.

Warly's early game diet usually causes you to benefit from eating meaty stew, so if you go hunt for koalefants, thats a huge help.

2. Go to lunar.

Lunar island has anenemies, stone fruit and kelp. Use these for your dishes instead of using Warly's crops, and even Warly can benefit from using them as fillers. Anenemies are for our next tip.

3. Set up the goat farm.

This one is for all you experienced folk. Set up a volt goat farm for him. For a guide on that, check out laknish monster's video on it.

4. Thank him.

This one is really easy. By thanking the Warly, you make him know he is appreciated and his work is helpful to you and your team. This makes the Warly happy.

Here is my tierlist on how well you can help Warly.

Spoiler

S+ Tier:
- Maxwell: Maxwell is in his own tier. Maxwell can help Warly gather salt, barnacles, anything Warly needs from the sea, super easily. Combine that with the ability to teleport items to and from magicians chest (base), his hat and shadow chester, along with all of Wicker's books, Maxwell is one of the best for helping Warly out. Unfortunately it is pretty one-sided.

S tier:
- Wurt: Having an army of Merms that can kill each other for fish and frog legs, and easily farm bq and dfly.
- Wickerbottom: Her books being overall useful, especially for Warly with a late-game fish farm and rain toggling for 3x damage.
- Winona: Additional farms that can be created to help the team and Warly.
- Wendy: Riling up Abigail to farm butterfly wings and butter, and frogs, and spiders, and-

A tier:
- Wortox: Ability to heal Warly, which can be an issue early game.
- Woodie: Rushing the lunar island and providing an early-game walking cane.

B tier:
- Willow: Warly can use her lighter to cook without going to a nearby fire, and Bernie is a nice quality of life addition.
- Webber: Spider wars allow Warly to get a ton of monster meat and silk.
- Wigfrid: Supporting Warly like she supports anyone else.
- Wilson: Food transmutation ability, turning meat into morsels for more efficient meaty stew.
- Wormwood: Harvesting barnacles for moqueca at any time of day.
- Wolfgang: Doing things faster.

C tier:
- Wes: Speedy balloon is good but nothing else.
- WX: Nothing special to help Warly.
- Walter: Same as WX.

D tier:
- Warly: The Warly can already do anything another Warly can do.

Thats all! I hope you got a bit more insight on how tough life can be for us Warly mains.

Walter is the 1. Morsel farmer king which is good for Warly food wise for things like meaty stew so he at least B teir. Defintely better than someone like Willow.

Havent thought about that due to nobody playing Walter in public servers.

I liked your comprehensive guide on how to spoil a Warly, but I must ask, how come the Wormwood is in B tier. Not only he can easily provide the veggies that Warly needs, but he will not need to consume any for healing purposes!

Yeah it's kind of spoiling a Warly

But its effect is instant, very good for getting seeds of desired crops early on and mass farming crops in a short time

This is true for any crock pot food, don't take what's not yours. Though if no regular crock pot is built people would just take it for obvious reasons.

They can't go extinct now since goats can be spawned by hunting in Spring, but yeah don't kill all the goats.

Ughh, helping people is so tiresome, might as well just feed on cooked monster meat and nightmare fuel as Wanda.:-D

The only advantage Wormwood has in farming is no tilling required and longer spoilage timer for farm plants, he only speeds up farming a bit from the tilling saved, Wicker is much better than him here

That's weird I usually see 2-3 Walters on pubs at a time.

i remember seeing like, one Walter that actually did something cool. They based at pig king and farmed krampii and traded resources with our base.

That entire write-up explains how to help a Warly player, but how does that player help in return? I assume you take care of agriculture in those public servers you frequent, from some of what you said? Usually where I play a Wormwood is always comandeering farms and it doesn't feel right to ask for anything because... what can I do for them in return?

In honesty I feel useless 90% of the time I play Warly. Not as a player cos I'm always willing to explore or fight, and I can make a decent basekeep. I'm saying in regards to his toolset. The specific toolset of Warly.

Nobody ever asks me to cook anything for them, Even when people know I know all recipes by memory and there's ingredients for anything. And when I'm not Warly nobody else is, or the one person playing him is more interested in filling out the cookbook than being credit to team with the buff meals. Trying to ask anything out of a newbie Warly feels so much like lecturing, and I don't desire telling others how to play their game.

So once again, how does a Warly help? Spices and goat herding are too time consuming for how short a pub lasts. There's only so much you can do as a single Warly to try and stay afloat. Wolfgang will Wolfgang the bosses before you even see a goat horn. Maxwell will Maxwell the trees before you place a bee box.

Don't misconstruct me, I still like him. But I'm always aware of this sad truth when I pick him.

Strongest geometric placement kitchen

  • Doo doo weak
  • can reach only 3 pots unless has icebox in middle.
  • Somehow very big, much space wasted.
  • With one icebox not enough food space for everyone.
  • With more iceboxes it's becomes more uncomfortable due to inability to reach all pots

Weakest 形种植/建造 kitchen

image.png.c4741c85fd1138acbe111af9936ecace.png

  • Most Powerful.
  • All 4 iceboxes reach all 5 pots
  • Compact
  • Enough space for everyone no matter what.
  • Pots work at maxmimum efficiency due to less distance traveled and ability to start all pots from one icebox.

Yeah, choosing Wolfgang or Maxwell is unfortunately more helpful than Warly in pubs unless you're coordinated. 1092891663879393290.webp?size=96&quality=lossless

You forgot to mention that 5 pot so the amount of food cooked per interval always multiple of 5, which is exactly stack side 10/20/40

Cooking  6 at a time will result 6/12/18/24/30/36/42, which all is NOT a stack size.

My perspective is that let's say, Wolfgang or Maxwell, played at their best, deserve to be better than an all-round support like Warly is.
But characters like those two, as well as Wendy and Wigfrid are already so strong out of the gate that Warly's more backloaded ingredient fetch quest feels like you're doing nothing but feed yourself all autumn. Even if you try your best to use your powers early you're rolling the die on everything: % chance on the crops, % chance on the goat horns. Honey Crystals and Fish Cordon Bleu can be gotten early (and reliably) if needed so at least that's good.

The Rift Content Era hasn't been kind to us either. The % boost of chaud-froid doesn't increase planar damage. Besides it's becoming harder to properly use electric damage with acid rain and now lunar hail. He will get a skill tree at some point, but I worry he won't be getting damage back as compensation like Wolfgang did.

Anyway! To comment on your Warly Support Guide. All I'd really ask for in a public server is for others to conserve the large non-monster meat in the fridge because Meaty Stew can really save a life. My preferred character to support Warly would be Wickerbottom for sure. They compliment each other incredibly well.

Don't misconstruct me, I still like him. But I'm always aware of this sad truth when I pick him.

I know OP mentioned farms but I've found that is only Warly's secondary specialty as the spices are really a more mild kicker for what is his real kit.  Volt Goat Chaud-Froid.  This is the strongest buff in the game b/c it can be applied to every single character.  Wolfgang can bring a single 2x multi, but Warly can bring a 1.5x to the whole party (which means Warly +1 is the same as if you picked Wolfgang, but if you add even 1 more person OR if that other person is Wolfgang you are already getting more.)

What I recommend as Warly when joining a server is to quickly locate goats and get bee boxes set up to start stockpiling horns and honey, then move to an auto-goat farm asap to reduce the busy work.  The bonus damage from this is significant for anyone so the universal application and payoff for your efforts are much better here.  Farms are something I'll move into once the bee boxes and goat farms are up and running.  Really farms are more the prevue of Wormwood or Wicker, Warly doesn't have any benefit to farming he just wants certain crops in rotation - which I'm sure a Wormwood or Wicker would be happy to provide.

Don't overlook the value of Garlic seasoning for ppl using beefs.  Garlic is typically considered weak because it comes after armor reduction, so if you have 80% already from a football helmet the garlic is only +6% damage BUT beefs can't wear armor so they get the full 33% increasing their effective health significantly.  Just remember you feed spices to the beef (garlic, chili) but YOU eat the Chaud-Froid

Garlic is indeed good. Better than ever as the damage reduction will reduce planar damage. It grows all year long as well.

Going for goats early will pay off in Spring (or Winter if it rains in the cave and you have business with the bosses there.) But no matter what you do you're bound by a 25% chance per goat.
25% to use one of your character's abilities, in the form of a consumable too. So it's gone once it's used. If you have more than one herd in your world you do get more chances. But that's a chance in itself.

Until then you have a cooking pot (which cooks faster and can be used as a deployable structure to block mob pathing... I use that to trap and murder Koalephants) and... hey I just remembered Chef Pouch exists. Could we perhaps buff that to be like a lesser version of this new polar Bearger fridge?

I wish goat farming was more interesting and had an easier method to do. Killing an electrified goat should drop a guarinteed horn, i always liked that mechanic and it would bring more light to electric milk aswell as a side product.

Yeah the weakness of Warly is that he is pretty much the late-late game character.  If you get production for crops and honey, and like 3-4 auto-goat farms and you'll easily have enough jelly and spices for everyone every boss fight...  but first autumn you probably have some honey, but no crops and you're manually doing horns at night.  By the time you get it going a good player will have already cleared ruins, dfly, and possibly bqueen.

I do love playing Warly though.  Using volt goat jelly on a wet dfly or toad, especially if there are other characters using it too really makes it feel powerful.  I had a 3 player group including a Wolfgang using jelly on misery toad and it was done so fast I thought we forgot to turn it misery when he died lol

Open some test world with admin scoreboard mod to make it more comfortable and discover how to use this mod . If you still have trouble after trying ask again.

lovely tips however if feels a lil like playing around/spoiling

I think Warly goes crazy in support after honey set [first one possible] so getting honey or setting bee farms helps to get logs and rocks asap as well if isnt any maxwell around cuz he cant benefit from that anyway

also peppers hard to multiply in the start so worm+wicker actually strong to make that happen also asap

despite that ye cool thoughts
