It's more to get feedback than a direct suggestion but an idea passed across my head for a potential Wickerbottom skill for her upcoming Skillset and I wonder how fun it can be :

What if Wickerbottom could teach other survivors to read her books ? Well, they surely can read already but allow them to under a certain protocol. I thought of two distinct methods that all achieve it but to a different level. I don't want both but can't decide which one I prefer.

  • Learn to craft Reading Glasses to allow others to read :
    • This would cost mid-game resources such as Moon Shard and maybe something exotic for the frame like Volt Goat / Beefalo Horns,
    • limited in uses, not repairable
    • (legitimately fashioned to wear for no reason).
  • You can sign copies that anyone can read :
    • Consuming a Feather Pencil on a book will turn it into a Signed copy,
    • signed copies no longer passively regenerate in the Bookcase but still stockable.
    • they show in a similar manner than spiced foods in the inventory / on floor.

This could aims to give Wickerbottom an option to turn more multiplayer axed as, while certain books definitively provide direct aid to surrounding players, she doesn't lay much knowledge to others while it has been so far fair and square for Maxwell and Wurt to be able to do something out of them, and to me it feels in character.

Maxwell and Wurt could probably remain the way they are as long as they don't use the skill method, canonically Wurt doesn't know how to read but we could pretend the skill meant she taught her to <3
Wickerbottom is most likely going to have personal benefits prior to unlock the sharing skill to make her still the superior book reader with reduced sanity cost and whatever surprise the set reserves us.

(Btw I'm aware certain may be furious regarding skillsets as a whole and I do agree they are flawed but this isn't the topic focus )

I still don’t understand the motivation. She’s a teamplayer even if other people can’t use her books.

Fun idea, but I feel  about wickerbottom teaching others how to read her books the same as I would feel about Wolfgang teaching others how to workout to be as strong as him, warly teachings others how to cook his exclusive recipes, Wigfrid teaching others how to sing for her buffs, Maxwell teaching others how to use codex umbra and his magician tophat, WX teaching others how to make cyborg improvements on themselves, etc.

Somewhere it starts feeling like characters are not themselves but an amalgamated of characters.
Although I get it that she is a librarian and it would be a flavourful way of portraiting it, maybe make exclusive "Books of teaching" that you can get in the skill tree and others can read as well, each one having a different effect on the reader for some minutes and only one being able to be in effect at a time.

I am mostly neutral about your suggestion, but a few days ago I was brainstorming about new wicker structures and I thought about one that would be perfect to for that.

A stationary pulpit with one slot for the book and two for storage, where the user can place the book and right click to read it at the cost of their sanity (maybe tripled for survivors and halved for wicker). I even thought about adding a gem socket so you can "automate" it (Yellow when there is light, purple when there is darkness, red when there is fire, blue when it's raining, opal on full moons and Idk about green/orange).

Interesting idea, dst redstone i want that. I still don't think survivors should be able to read it directly, though i don't like it being used to fully turn off rain forever, i think the idea could be used for something else other than books since i don't think it works well for some of them, probably something new.

Orange could be for when there are items nearbye, and green for when a work action is performed or a structure is destroyed, e.g chopping trees.

@ADM this is a pretty fun idea for Wicker's Skill Tree since most players would love to have the option to stop Frog Rain.

I like your idea for Reading Glasses. They could be a craftable skill deep inside one of her branches... and since it's pretty OP to give the reading ability, they probably shouldn't be cheap, like you said.

2 Moon Glass + 2 Goat Horns with only 3 uses... that might help balance them out a little bit.

Might also be nice if Wicker could use them to cut the cost on book usage and the sanity drain.

Fingers crossed the Devs like it too AMD... sorry, I meant ADM.

I find a lot of articles about Wikerbottom, maybe they will affect her as one of the 3 characters for the next update.
As for reading at the expense of skills, I am against it, Wikerbottom already has problems with the fact that she is a replacement character for Maxwell
