Keep the nightmare phase going before Charlie shows up.

Quick introduce. When Charlie shows up, the nightmare cycle in the ruins is forcibly locked into the nightmare phase, which is a cool detail. Ancient Gateway have the same effect when the key is on it.

So, what's the problem?

When Charlie fixes the Gateway in its unstable state, she'll end the Gateway's forced nightmare phase before starting her own. This causes the whole ruins to suddenly go out and light up again, like a broken light bulb...

 

Here's the video, specially notice how the color of the floor suddenly goes out and lights up again.
