Yes, it's to show they're going into Estrus/heat. It's almost certainly just extra visual flare to represent that fact! Like how most animals in heat will have increased body temperature, they fan their rears with their tails. I had no idea about the fan part that is cool! I thought that it might be just visual flare, thank you for confirming! I wonder why Klei did that spicifically instead of something like eye changes or horn or something.. in any case, the head deamons are now quiet.
