DimaH20
Why did klei forget about Wilson's main feature on the character selection icon and instead put a torch that often shines on posters, but the icon on the character selection much more shows who Wilson is and what his personal characteristics vs Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/146402-wilson-the-experimenter-or-the-torchbearer/ Share on other sites
Dragonboooorn
#Team_Experimenter I mean, come on! We already have a character whos theme is fire, why Wilson have so much perks dedicated to a single torch??? Like what, 7 levels of torch upgrades? Wilson is canonicly a experienced badass survivor, why doesnt he have any perks related to survival aspect? Antynomity
This is the only thing I dislike about the Wilson rework, sadly they have caved into all the cries that he should stay basic, even though he hasn't been the starter character for like 8 years at this point (you're not forced to start as him, and there is virtually no reason for you to start as him, even after this rework if major changes aren't added). I think the concept of the starting character died in don't starve and when everyone has already gone to together Wilson just remained a character that is abandoned at least a little learning to play or for people who do not like the minuses or like the charisma of the character Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/146402-wilson-the-experimenter-or-the-torchbearer/#findComment-1624242 Share on other sites

Being basic has nothing to do with being starter character. Or do you think people ask for him to stay basic because they want to play dst for the first time and need a perkless character? I want Wilson to be basic because there are 17 characters with unique perks and I don't need an 18th gimmick guy. Some times I want to play the game for the sake of the game not for the character. They could have also gone wilder with his perks to please the people who wanted his concept of gentleman scientist to be expanded on. I always thought that the point don't starve in unique characters that differ from each other if you take it that Wilson has never been basic he had the privilege of a beard and Meat Effigy which gave him the ease of experiencing the whole game because the same Meat Effigy can resurrect endlessly if not waste hair on stoking the fire Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/146402-wilson-the-experimenter-or-the-torchbearer/#findComment-1624251 Share on other sites

The problem is that he's not presented as someone basic. If Wilson was an office clerk with 9-5 job who likes dogs and pizza, no one would complain about him not having any perks. However, he's portrayed as a disaster scientist who invents wacky stuff (Nautopilot, Fire Pump) and not very concerned with the moral side of his experiments. That has a ton of potential for unique gameplay mechanics. And Klei can't introduce another character with characteristics like that because people would complain that they're rehashing Wilson. They found an excellent way to keep him both basic and fleshed out, but they could've leaned into his disaster scientist part way more. Perks are already here, why wouldnt you want them to be cool and fun for the people who want to use them? Anyone who wants the torch perks to stay as they are while also not intending to use any perks comes off as a bitter contrarian because if wilson is gonna have a skill tree there is no rational argument for the skills on it to be so uninspired. You already have your basic boring wilson if you dont spend the points, but dont actively advocate for wilson to remain that for the people who want to spend their skill points and make him an actual character. You got your end of the compromise with the ability to not spend the points, let the others get their end and have wilsons perks be actually good for the people that wish to use them. Cackenberg
I am conflicted. Wilson is a failure scientist with a lot of enthusiasm nevertheless and this makes him charming. However I don't want them to remove the torch perks. I like them. Please don't make me go back to collecting light bulbs.
