The Plum Gate
Just thinking out loud. The rates of decomposition should be logarithmic...I guess if everything was round. And perhaps stale food should give a morale debuff when eaten.
tuxii
I think this would probably overcomplicate the food system and just make the early game harder. I can already envision the tedious gameplay of having to look through the fridge and composting all the stale food because dupes seem to pick food at random. And I never run a compost. The Plum Gate
I think fixing the spoillage rates around a rebalance might fix that problem. The idea here being that "stale" has a purpose and doesn't simply serve as a reminder of food problems.
goboking
Stale food gives a debuff of sorts. When dupes eat stale food they do a gagging animation that eats into their efficiency. Disclaimer: The gagging animation might be triggered by something other than freshness (germs, food quality, etc), in which case I apologize for offering bad information.
