Maxwell beta thoughts from a maxwell gamer

okay, I tested it, the direction is interesting, seems to need some tuning to get it in a good spot

 

Farming

farming wise, I actually prefer old maxwell's farming power level

right now the shadow puppets dont last long enough to be worth the nm fuel investment

 

Duelists

Duelists seem to be better now

They finally embraced their role as kamikaze cannon fodder

 

Shadow storage

shadow storage is cool

 

Shadow sneak

shadow sneak just... scares mobs?

unsure how that is useful. I don't think it does damage.

 

Shadow pillars

shadow pillars are cool

 

New powers book UI

the UI experience is not nice for the book, I need hotkeys for each new power

 

Book animation

the book casting animation is a bit clunky since it roots me in place for this long

 

 

Gonna add more thoughts as they occur to me to this thread as I discover more

 

 

Suggestion 1: Make book refillable via wicker bookcases?

Suggestion 2: Make bosses breakout of shadow prisons (right now you can trap bosses and wanda goes pewpew)

Suggestion 3: Make shadow sneak also do AoE damage, while increasing shadow cost

Shadow servants now feel much better, they last a normal duration and they now properly pickup gatherings

This is what 1 nmfuel can get you, and it is not even done chopping

Apparently I was wrong about how shadow servants work, they a long long time as they are chopping. Now their idle despawn lasts 10 seconds. Still have to have the area loaded for it to work

Shadow duelists also seem to have better dps, still not usable on bosses as expected

Dark sword not draining sanity is actually a nerf, as I liked going insane from it

You actually don't need nightmare fuel to summon them anymore. It just costs max sanity

(though i definitely agree they should last longer.)

When I saw "Shadow Pillars" as traps I thought it would be those black pillars at Pig King

"Shadow Sneak" could be useful for Ruin Clockworks (Bishops) or maybe make Pirate Monkeys less of an issue

Maxwell can't be perma-insane so getting that early Dark Flower Garden is going to be needed

Ender-Tophat could teleport bundle wraps/Armor stuff or teleport resources by dropping the hat by tree farm (inventory less stuffy)

Possible Duelist changes (not all at once, but maybe one or two of them):

1) natural armor/more health to make then last longer

2) a dodge/block mechanic, where when they are first hit, they either block the damage like the bone armor, or they dodge the attack like a shadow monster. Has a cooldown that leaves them vulnerable. If they have this then they don't need to kite and can hit enemies more than once.

3) higher damage attacks.

4) explodes on death. If they are gonna kamikaze anyway, then they might as well.

True, but comparing that to the previous summoning cost of 2 nightmare fuel (plus tools). means you get a whopping 10 rework servants for the value of 1 old servant. That's the main thing I wanted to bring attention to.
