Using the amazing power of infinite resource mods, I have discovered that there are unused materials in that resource menu pin... thing.

I have no idea if somebody has already made content about this.

Here's some examples of what each material could be:

  • Phosphate Nodules: Can randomly generate in Ocean biomes, but only when below Salt Water or, less commonly, Brine. Basically useless.
  • Synthesis Gas: "a mixture of hydrogen and carbon monoxide". Can be used as a fuel, and is made by putting coal into a Gasification Chamber (does not exist).
  • Brick: Used as a construction material, and is somewhat/vaguely/pretty strong (75 hardness). More or less a slightly fancier Granite.
  • Building Slab: A weaker version of Brick. Halved hardness (37, decimal removed)
  • Sand Cement: Made with Sand and Crushed Rock. Can be made into Brick and Building Slab, but is useless by itself.

You can't (as of now wink wink) use Sandbox tools to get these, so don't try.huh.PNG.e52e0c18fe0cc9d3cede5594ef99d391.PNG

^ Sand Cement, Brick and Building Slab in the Refined Mineral tab. Ignore the Cement; it's from a mod.

There are more unused materials. Some could be viewed in the codex as well. You can also find some here: https://oni-db.com/

Stuff like radium, pyrite or bitumen never got any use. The latter might have been a way to balance the mass deletion in the oil refinery.

Phosphate nodules could be probably molten into phosphorus which can be fed to some shinebug variants but that`s it. Phosphorus didn`t get much use either.

Brick and building slab were likely meant for a refined mineral system similar to refined metals that never got implemented. Iirc brick had the same stats as ceramic (understandably) and possibly was a manufactured version while ceramic was something appearing naturally when clay got cooked by a volcano or something.

I wonder if that got replaced with Corium -- which I haven't discovered yet, but is listed as the material Hazmat Digging allows you to mine.

Iirc it has different art. Radium was a sort of placeholder and despite the art being done it was never added. Corium doesn`t get much play unless expolidng a nuclear reactor becomes a valid strategy. I could see a special super hazardous zone filled with it though as a lategame challenge.
