I tried making a varg farm myself but it didn't work so I wanted to know some alternatives. The hounds kept spawning inside the enclosure I made because I was too far away from the vargs. It does require some upfront time investment to build the setup between the statues, finding about 3-4 vargs, and collecting the purple gems. But once you've got everything setup, you can farm stacks of gems in like 30 minutes. All elemental hounds (and rrgular hohnds) convert into a different type of hound called a moon hound, which means no gems.
