Pet Rock Posted July 7, 2022 Share Posted July 7, 2022 Pan flutes are a very useful commodity but I find myself lacking mandrakes as all of the ones I have collected have mysteriously disappeared and there aren't any accessible ways to renew mandrakes (only killing Klaus) so I present an alternative: An angel's trumpet! It can be crafted with moon stone, moon glass, and a beefalo horn. It can only be used at night and each use uses 10% durability (like a pan flute). It's effectiveness changes depending on the moon phase. On a new moon the angel's trumpet does nothing but as the moon phases progress it gets more powerful (bigger radius, longer sleeping, shorter use time) until it's about half as good as the pan flute. On a full moon it works almost as well as a pan flute and sends gestalt to sleeping mobs dealing delayed damage. And yes I know the sleep dart and nap sack exist but one isn't viable and the other isn't accessible... Realistically, I know that the resources required for a deconstruction staff aren't the worst, I'm a fan of the twins, but going all the way down to the ruins for crafting makes for really cumbersome gameplay that I don't enjoy. Not being super accessible. That being said, there is a craftable alternative, it's called Sleepy Time Stories. Ruins and Klaus are both pretty dang accessible... Klaus is available once every year and the ruins are there all the time, with the only thing keeping you out being if caves are disabled. If you struggle with the difficulty of either, that's what practice is for. Klaus is pretty easy to learn the patterns of if you practice, and pretty much everything in the ruins can be outrun, so. There's that. I would recommend making ice staves, as they're extremely easy to make, can be made in large numbers, and while not as good as the panflute still do allow you to stop enemies for a moment. If you're really relying on that mechanic for things, hate wickerbottom, are afraid of Klaus and/or the ruins, or just need something quick to give some buddies for if you're going to a boss fight, the ice staff can really do wonders. You can also use them to extinguish smoldering/burning items, so that's a plus. Although even if you did have access to the Napsack, it's a joke item. It's laughably awful. It's one good use is that you can duplicate shroom skin with it. I don't think griefers should be a reason to make the game easier though...but tbh, I really like mandrakes, I like that they follow the player and scream then go back to being a plant at day. It would be nice if live mandrakes were renewable, rather than just the panflute...
