DnD for DST Posted July 3, 2022 Share Posted July 3, 2022 After you survive one year, that's it, the game no longer gets harder, there is no more survival challenge. This is why it would be nice (imo) if new gem a houndscould be added. They could be turned off in world settings for those who do not want them. The following hounds would only spawn after the first year and in hound waves. Yellow gem hound: autumn hound. While it is alive, it gives every other nearby hound (and itself) a 50% running speed, attack speed and attack recovery speed bonus. You would need to manage to target it down first to get ride of the advantage. Orange gem hound: summer hound. These hounds would teleport to the player and instantly attack when it is not in a barking animation & attack cooldown. It would force the player to use something else than mobs and & or good reflexes. You would need to quickly prepare a plan for second summer, like a good weapon and armor as toot traps are late game. Purple gem hound: when killed, all hounds alive in the world are teleported to the player. The purple gem is dark like winter, so the season fits. Also, since you can craft a Telelocator staff and teleport yourself with a lightning using purple gem, it makes sense that teleportation is involved. It would require careful planning to avoid being overrun: you need to destroy all hound mounds in advance and avoid escaping from hounds, so it would give a good challenge. Green gem hound: spring hound. This hound would instantly destroy any armor you are wearing when it bites you and when it dies, all durability items within a certain radius are instantly destroyed. I can survive and kill Fuelweaver with just 1 hp, so why can't others lure Deerclops to hound mounds? @Copyafriend I do not see how this is ridiculous when I can complete 100x harder challenges (1 hp Fuelweaver no bug exploit no revive). Mike23Ua Posted July 3, 2022 Share Posted July 3, 2022 I don’t think DS/DST was ever designed to be this kind of game, I always saw it as a wacky mystical realm type of game where flowers are literal flying bugs.. I mean I don’t think ANYONE would enjoy the kind of challenges your wanting & there’s more to it besides just turn them off- IF such features were ever added they should be OFF by Default with the OPTION to turn them ON. However- I would much rather get some new and fun gameplay elements- for example the new monkey tail bushes could have had a % chance to pull a monkeys tail instead of being a generic bush while attempting to harvest. The game isn’t meant to be this hardcore survival simulator- I just want to explore wacky randomly generated worlds- with less familiar biomes and resources And these hounds your suggesting aren’t going to scratch that itch, and if all the cool new mob ideas were just hound variations you’d end up with Borderlands where Skaggs had various element effects- but at the end of the day… they’re still Skaggs. Skittersquid have a unique blinding effect and a hilarious combat animation when you engage with fighting them.. These are things that are already in the game.. so why add more hounds when the biomes, mobs and resources already in the game are going underutilized as is? Just because something is not impossible does not mean its not rediculous. Destroying gear in a single bite? Not even the strongest enemy in the entire game does that much damage. Guess i can kiss my thulecite crown goodbye for some arbitrary reason. 50%!?!? Attack speed rate? They’d stunlock you with two hounds and youd never outrun them. these challenges on their own are rediculous because hounds are not and never were meant to be an extreme challenge, they’re a progress check. The hounds will hurt but hounds arent supposed to be the end game boss you’re trying to turn them into. Saying that you can beat one of the final bosses without taking damage is cool and all (and you might well be able to do it, i dont believe you actually have though in an actual survival situation at least) but you cant expect everyone to. Because its just not fun to make something destroy your gear instantly, or be inescapable, or just ******* delete everything with durability in an area. That’s literally just anti-fun. dont starve is NOT a combat game, and to be frank i dont really see these hounds as a possible functional addition to the game because of how rediculously overtuned they would be compared to the rest of the game. Oh and i guess we’re fighting them as regularly as current hounds despite it being worse than literally every seasonal boss simultaneously.
