test447 Posted June 17, 2022 Share Posted June 17, 2022 at their current cost, the shells from going to pearl's island and cleaning it up looks like it'd only add bumpers to like literally a single boat. Since each bumper needs 3 broken shells and each boat needs like 8 bumpers making 24 broken shells = 24 shell bells. Which you probably can get from the shell clusters around the island and bundle of thanks. But imagine you are on a multiplayer (not single person) world. Then only one player can actually get enough shells to put bumpers on their boat. I know you technically can kill slurtles and snurtles but needing to kill 3 of them per section of bumper just doesn't seem worth it at all. If you have two mabla sails and crash into something, doesn't matter which bumper you have, both will break in one shot. You can repair the bumper kits with the material they're made out of, but it doesn't matter because again, they break in one shot, at least for me. Otherwise you can place much less on the boat. This should definitly be changed. Also when you fight on the boat with Ctrl+F you destroy your own bumpers which doesn't seem right And maybe I'm the only one but the artwork of the shell bumpers does not really look that fitting to me, the kelp bumpers look much better I think, but maybe thats just me. All in all I think the bumpers need some more work. dzzydzzy Posted June 17, 2022 Share Posted June 17, 2022 you also get more shells from every buried treasure, and shell bells are renewable via bottle exchange with pearl eventually (ik very slow grind, but still wanted to remind people) And also remember, these are luxury items, I don’t think they're purpose is to use them as ocean mining saw-blades of destruction (Although I totally did this in creative mode too and it's awesome!) but instead, to be buffers of protection so that you don’t get a hole in your boat when you come in too fast for the landing. We've survived boating this far without their existence, safe to say we can keep their cost just fine. And I agree it's weird that it affects other item placement on the ship when its just strapped to the side of the boat. I also enjoy the customizability it offers to designers for boat decorating. And if you don't want the item, don't use it like the other things I don't use on my boat base cause imo they're too expensive and not worth it (like steering wheel, mast, anchor) but offer wonderful customization.
