I expected a bit harder late-game experience

Recommended Posts

First, make hazards... more hazardous.

I mean, do you remember your first game experience? I thought radioactive biome would nearly kill dupes, radbolts are extremely dangerous an can explode your whole base, but then... It's just much MUCH easier. After situation with food & oxygen stabilizes, you can do (nearly) anything. The limited world size also plays a big role, turning the wild planet into just one big house.

And some suggestions.
- Switch lights off, making dupes very slow in darkness, with some tweaks and, of course, full darkness when not lit.
- Some more dangerous, but useful biomes, only located on other asteroids [Spaced Out]
- Animals require at least atmosphere.
- Make germs more like actual life.
- Pdirt , pwater, etc. don't emit poxygen, but convert oxygen into it. Pdirt also converts water in pwater producing regular dirt.
- Make liquid act more like a lazy gas, allowing pushing on extreme pressure differences and random fluctuations in liquid itself.

Some of the suggestions are good but not everyone is skilled to overcome these issues. For anyone who want to try them now, there are some mods that already add these features.

The closest thing I looked for, but not ideal. I meant some germs that could be incompatible with plants/animals, some "hot" germs could rapidly multiply in lava and then, when die significantly heat surroundings. My first idea was to make slimelung germs to be able to turn algae into slime.

Lifecycle of the germs is handled by sim lib, and that one cannot be modded, so things like "heat surroundings when die" is out of the table. Also, heat is a danger it itself and once you are drowning in lava the last thing you worry about is germ infection. But I might do something heat-related in the future if I felt I got a good idea for it.

Plant and critter germs is something I want to do as well, but current infection system in the game works for duplicants only, so there would be more work to do them. But if I had idea I like I want to do something.

I mean, dupes don't get infected. Germs make you drown in lava.

Later in the game you hit a plateau where most hazards don`t really hurt anymore. But then you get hazards like overheating the base or running out of fuel for power generation. If you got those fixed you might hit a wall where dupes just take too long to manage the base and don`t get anything done in any reseanable time. Finally the biggest hazard is running out of fps - which i wish wasn`t the case.

All those while nice ideas wouldn`t really affect the late game though. They would just make reaching it take longer. In the late game stuff like germs or dangerous biomes are a non issue due to atmo suits. Atmosphere for critters isn`t that hard to maintain and pressure fluctuations would maybe break some infinite storage designs (probably not) but you can easily manage lategame without using those.

How would that work? Unless...

Don't know if this would be possible (or isn't already implemented by a mod) but maybe a Zombie Spore infection could override a dupe's normal errand list and make them slowly "move to" random and potentially dangerous locations.  And if they happen to die while infected (either from starvation or environmental hazard) maybe they could emit a burst of Zombie Spores on death.

I know too much about ants and a certain parasitic fungus...
