The thrill of the catch has lead me here.. It is seldom I would ever consider further expanding the DST character roster with brand new characters which aren't from SW or Hamlet... but here I am. The more I think about a Fisherman character who isn't a Pirate just sounds more and more wondrous. They would hate the taste of Veggies, but won't mind Meat, Berries / Sweet. They'll absolutely love Fish and Fishing. Could create a really unique and fun playstyle. But years of this lifestyle has given him a bad reputation amongst the scaley critters of the constant.

Theme:  Fisherman

Stats: (Health: 150) (Hunger: 175) (Sanity: 175)

Pros:

Gains extra hunger from Seafood.

Gains sanity from catching fish.

Increased Rowing Speed.

Doesn't lose Sanity from Wetness until 50% and the Sanity loss is halved.

Increases Damage by 20% while on a Boat.

Can craft a Deluxe Fishing Rod (more durability than the standard pond fishing rod, and increases your odds of a fish biting)

Can craft a Bucket Hat (head clothing item which allows you to store a few lures)

Cons:

Can't eat Veggies.

-Mushroom, Carrot, Potato, Onion, Pumpkin, Corn, Eggplant, Asparagus, Garlic, Peppers, Lichen, Mandrake, Cactus, Kelp, Foliage, Cactus Flowers, Petals (Can still consume; Butterfly Muffin, Milkmade Hat, Pumpkin Cookies, Powdered Cake)

Has a bad reputation with aquatic life.

-Merms, Frogs, and Ocean Mobs will always try to prioritize attacking the Fisherman. (Will not wear Wurt's Disguise)

Will not sleep during the Day or Dawn.

-Night naps only!

Game Changes: Toma Root, Glow Berry are now Fruits.

When examining Froggle Bunwich "Perfectly good way to ruin Frog Legs"

Playing him will feel like playing Woodlegs on RoG

I wanted to avoid a woodlegs clone where as he's a pirate and hates being on land etc, loves treasure etc. I think my fisher concept is unique enough to justify an entirely different character. :)

You just created Ocean version of Wilson.

I would make something like this:

Veteran Sailor: Better boat control with faster sail turn, faster Steering Wheel, Anchor, Better Vision on boat.

Master Fisherman: Faster rod reeling, throw range, Can see big fishes in the pools

Can create special platform turfs and place them on coastal or swell water (WATER BASES)

New lures, baits and a Chum Bucket

Can create special armors and weapons out of different ocean fishes and ocean resources. Only he and Wurt can use those armor items, since they have strong, unbearable fishy smell. One of those weapons should be "Cutlass Supreme"

Just an example of modern dst character upsides.

Your character ideas are really good, but it isn't the vision I had for the Fisherman. You're still on this master sailor pirate thing. Which is fine. I just didn't personally want to focus a whole lot on specifically the boat.. Woodlegs very heavily had awesome tough boat and I wanted to separate this character a bit more. You have good ideas. I just wanted to keep the base simple so it could be built upon.

I didn't want to define too much, but I did consider doing special fishing rod perks, like a special pond fishing rod craft that has more uses pond and fish bite more frequently. Unique ocean fish bait, maybe no need for lures because there are a lot already.

I want to and a character specific ocean platform because so many people have been asking for something like this and I think everyone should have the access.

Maybe instead of armor he can make clothes like a bucket hat which act like a small inventory expansion slot for lures.
