The Biggest Issue I See About the New Crafting UI...

...is how strictly temporary the pinned items are. I know the devs said they will be working on adding new pages for pins and allowing us to make presets (hopefully within the compendium) but I just wanted to say that might not be the best way to go with it, or at least not quite.

The best thing about the pinned items, and the initial philosophy behind them is that the frequently crafted items are always dynamic and reflect the stage of the game/nature of the focused actions. When used well, they become a perfectly effective tool in tasks like basebuilding, adventuring, sailing, marking etc.

Sadly, im not sure if it's a bug or not, but the saved pins always revert back to defaults when you connect and disconnect, go to caves and resurface etc. Frankly I remember the pined items saving within a server in the Beta. That's how it should be. They might allow us to pick presets to start with for convenience but essentially pins are a dynamic design that should always be saved at their last set form in a world and that data should be saved and reloaded when rejoining or changing shards. It'd still be rather inconvenient if our pins in a world revert back to our presets everytime we disconnect/switch shards.

It's just something I wanted to note while the devs work on perfecting the pins. The idea and design of them is perfect but please make sure they are saved locally and reloaded after a reconnection or shard switching event occurs.

Seems like a new bug as it was working fine during the beta as iirc. Report it on the bug tracker with the steps you did to reproduce it so they can fix it. This seems like a 3rd variant to this bug occurring, as I reported two others that would occur in niche scenarios:

1. It's a forest only world.

2. You made a copy world and then immediately joined the copy world.

I think this bug's been a thing since the beta started. It happens mainly on Forest-Only worlds but it also happens in worlds with Caves, although less commonly. Hopefully Klei will find a way to solve it cause it's really annoying having to repin everything.
