So darkness and light are opposites right? You know whats the most common type of light in Don't Starve Together? Fire, the very same magic that Willow uses. Maybe somehow, Bernie has some of Willow's magic. Willow sees Bernie as protection against the monsters. This is why when she holds out Bernie in her trailer, the Terrorbeak leaves. Real talk, I assume its because of the funny trope that teddys scare away monsters. Most kids are portrayed as having their guardian toy!
