Improving the Birthday and Lore

Let me show you something

image.thumb.png.45fdddfb9c4332fdf688dc766c6ece95.png

you know what it is, right?

yes, a bunch of meaningless info from the Compendium, why? because it adds nothing to the character, nothing happened during that day and most people just doesn't bother to remember them

Also, do you know the similarities between a "fan of character A", "people who doesn't care about charactar A", "someone who hate character A", between "character A day 1 player", and "character A day 1000 player"?

their knowledge about the character story to very limited if not close to nothing

you as player can only know about the character personality via their quote and since the qoute is unchanged from day 1 to day xxxx, character development is non-exist ingame, we as the player can only see our favorite development from the animation short if we're lucky. This is not only no nowhere near enough for us, it's also very costly due to animation, sound,...

---------------------------------------------------------------

and then, I have an idea, what if, during a character birthday, something special happen? a small, 1 day event

I play this game call "Identity v", and to me, the birthday system of this game is perfect for Don't Starve Together

for example, here is a birthday event for a character named "Eli Clark", he is a seer

image.thumb.png.6aeb570d4b1b4dd17181d854b55d174e.png

what you do in this event is to answer 5 question (bonus the 6) about the character

image.thumb.png.4243781e4899f22fbcf28983b85b4900.png

image.thumb.png.4fe59d5ebd1a206ef65a9f1ddb64b668.png

if you don't know the answer and choose the wrong one, it's perfectly fine, you can choose the different one until you choose the right one

I think this is fantastic, you can drop some fact about what the character can do, their personality to introduce the character to new player

and for each quest, you will get a small reward,

image.thumb.png.5d300627777214c579d20c1636d4b089.png

I think this is the perfect way to give out free spool and Klei point, especially to new player

But it doesn't stop there, by finishing the character birthday event, the player will get a letter, written by that character, telling us about the character life before, now, their relationship with the other character in the game

this is PERFECT for long time fan

IDV Art References Twitterissä: "Quick note: Seer was the first character to get a letter. This confirms that everyone else will get a different letter when their birthday/character day rolls around again." /

Ok with it, here is my idea how thing should work in DST

I will use Wilson as an example

it's Apirl 23 2022

you log in to the game and bem, balloon flying from the bottom of the screen

the "big news" will display WIlson birthday, the top right of the screen will have a button to join the event to answer the question:
here is a small animation I made :v

birthdayWilsontest.gif.5a35bf7d9710568a0dd63ea616e0f880.gif

5 question + 5 reward

the first one give you 100 spool

the second one give you 400 Klei point

the third one give you 150 spool

the fourth one give you 400 klei point

the fifth one give you 200 spool

=> the event will give you 450 spool = 1 Distinguished skin (or you can save up) And 800 Klei point

after finish the question, you exit the minigame to the main menu again to get the letter (or what ever Klei sees fit with the character)

image.thumb.png.049fb2eef3d3aa8d6d1b091c82436493.png

the letter will be added to the Compendium

Is it? Hmmm

I mean with the skin number keep expanding every update,  that much spool and point are ok for new players
it still take 3 characters birthdays to get 1 elegant skin, 18 characters is 6 elegant skin per years

i don't think it's too much though

lore is called lore for a reason. it's not really meant to impact your gameplay experience directly.

:v this isn't impact your gameplay though :v

every thing happen on the menu screen

not in your world

if you're not interested, you can always ignore the birthday and go play in your world/host/server normally

cool idea, but to make it fair the birthday bonuses should probably stay for a bit longer than just the birthday (it could start on a birthday and end like 1 week after) so people wouldn't have to memorize all the birthdays in fear of losing an item

the things with that is that for example winona and woodies birthday are 2 days apart.

if this did become a thing they should share an event or smth

no, this is not a full on big event, birthday should only last for 1 day, it's a birthday

Klei could notify the birthday a weak/month early:

"Hey folks, it's almost October, get ready for Wolfgang, Maxwell and Wurt birthday"

(the game I took inspiration from, "Identity V" does this too, the dev will tell you which character birthday will come in that month or next month)

Since there is no exclusive skin, it's perfect ok fine if you miss those days, the story letter will be shared around anyway, or you can alway check the wiki, it add no cosmetic or gameplay effect

plus, making the birthday last a week can remove any reason for player to remember the day :v

yeah but klei wants to avoid forcing people to play their game, like mobile games do, by not giving any better bonus for playing once every day except for some small common items, and i doubt klei would try to force players to both memorize all the birthdays and play the game just for an item. and a character's birthday could still be special, without needing people to memorize them.

as well as this they've changed halloween and christmas to winter's feast and hallowed nights, they could do something similiar by including birth weeks, instead of birthdays.

well, like I said, this isn't a full on big event like hallowed night or winter feast, you get reward for remember a special day and lose nothing important other than some spool and point (which you can get in later event anyway) if you skip or miss it (no cosmetic or gameplay effect)

and no, you don't have to play the game everyday :v

that why I'm not suggest adding any skin, just some spool, point and a letter for lore

nothing force you to play everyday with this system :v

tbh, the daily gift system is more "forcing people to play their game" everday than this birthday system?

birth weeks

also... "birth weeks" sounds really weird
