Can the slot after the equipped item be used to place the replaced item?

Recommended Posts

For example, when you equip a weapon when you fight a boss, the cane is automatically placed in the slot where the weapon was previously placed.

I know it’s okay now, but you have to manually adjust it before switching. As long as you switch the equipment once in the middle of other items, their positions will be disrupted.

Therefore, I hope that the official can simply put the replaced items after the equipment in the slot of the equipped item.

that would be more annoying since you can't fast switch between cane-weapon-weather pain-ice staff-glass axe against toad or cane-weapon-wp during fw or torch-ice staff-weapon-cane during winter

as cheggf said, put all the gear in the left and try to organize it:all hand gear together followed by body and head gear. If you dont have random tools or weapons in the last slots and you dont let empty slots in the left, it should work fin and prevent weird things

I didn't get how will that be more annoying and tamper with fast swap? Seems like a good suggestion to me.

because how do you swap between the new slot and the left ones? or maybe im not understanding something

Now I'm double confused.

I personally used hot keys only in one scenario in my entire life, that being a pvp event where ear muffs protect from mandrakes and you need to react and equip them in a fraction of a second when you see someone chug a thing in his mouth. Other times I feel like just using mouse is good enough and the easiest place for mouse to reach is middle screen inventory slots or backpack slots depending on what else I'm using mouse for or if im using hambat and heals in my backpack while I beat giant frog to death.

OP suggests that the previously equipped item should swap its place with the currently equipped and that's exactly what I'm already doing by filling inventory with sticks or stuff. Just a little quality of life suggestion for times where you didn't expect juggle session or are poor on filler somehow

oh i see, i miss read it. But you dont need sticks or whatever to fill the inventory, unless you spam so quick (idk why if you spam like crazy the game doesnt know where goes the item) they wont move if the inventory is organized

see this as example, long explanation about how works inventory and why "weird things" happen if someone is interested

im switching between cane and shield, since they are in the slot1 they wont do crazy things, if i want to use the lantern it will be also ok because they will be together for easy access, the game will only use slot1 and slot2 also the head slots are safe too because they are together so the game will only use slot3, slot4 and slot5 for them. But here comes the weird things, if i wanna equip the gembell the game will place the item from my hand in the slot6 making it difficult to switch to the hand slots from the slot1 and slot2 but it will still being consistent since the game will use 1,2,6 and 7 if use torch too.

Now, what happens if i equip my hammer in the slot 11? well, the item from my hand will be placed in the slot 9 since it will be the firts empty slot. Why this happens? because when i switch between cane and shield the slot1 gets empty between changes but if i use the slot11, since im not freeing space from slot1 or 2, there wont be any free slot before the slot9

maybe klei can do something to make this more intuitive but the inventory works fine is just that you need tons of hours to realice how it works which isnt good for new players

I know it can be annoying - but I like that things remember the slot they came from.  If I'm juggling only 2 items, like cane / hambat its easy to have them share a slot, but if I'm juggling 3 items having them go where they belong and having different keys to change them is better imo.

Like one thing I do with toad is I equip a ham bat so it remembers a slot in my back pack, and a cane that remembers a slot in my character inv.  I also have an armor piece.  So when toad puts on a spoil bomb I can easily equip cane, then armor which has the effect of putting my hambat in my backpack and dropping my backpack so I don't get any spoilage.

This problem is 10x worse on consoles.

Especially on Wolfgang cause if his dumbbell is all the way on the LEFT after equipping it you'll have to scroll all the way to the RIGHT just to use.

And then tossing it and picking it up.....pain.

I've only fixed it by having a SOLE inventory slot for all my tools.  So I got alot of inventory clutter but my tools stay where I want them.

The only pain with this is that if I pick up items and they take my inventory slot it's back to my items being shifted all around.

Please Klei. Let us move our inventory slots position and customize them.
