How to activate supply teleporters?

I don't know how to activate these supply teleporters (sender and receiver). Clicking on it says, "skill-required operation" and mousing over that says, "field research". So I take 2 dupes with that skill, in priorities I turn off all the other skills except research, and yet the task does not appear in their queue. Any help is much appreciated!

Always set your toggling priority to high for all dupes.  Saves a lot of problems.

Toggle, life-support and combat are the 3 I set to max for all dupes right at the start of a new game.

So, I used SharraShimada's idea of locking them in there with abilities enabled for toggling, science, and operating. One of my dupes could activate the teleporters and then 3 others with the needed requirements all stand around and do nothing. This is a little buggy on the dev side :/

UPDATE: One cycle later I transfer my good dupe to the asteroid to turn on the receiving end. This dupe does not go near the teleporters but magically after I switch between asteroids all of the teleporters are working.

I want to thank everyone for your advice. I will put it to good effect moving forward!
