SuperBeaver
I want to do an industrial sauna, containing an aluminum volcano, a gold volcano, and a minor volcano, as well as 6 metal refineries at least, maybe 7, and other stuff that give out heat How do I calculate how many turbines are required, and how many kg of water / steam per tile, what are the formulas ? What kind of materials do you recommend using for the tempshift plates ? Prince Mandor
Why mix vulcanos with industry? They have very different temperature ranges and working rhythm Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/133631-how-to-calculate-dtus-for-industrial-grid/#findComment-1494614 Share on other sites
Yobbo
While it doesn't directly answer your question of how to do the calculations yourself, the ONI Geyser Calculator is helpful for calculating the peak and averaged DTU/s for each volcano. The wiki has all the formulae for steam turbine heat deletion / water usage / power production. Turbine requirements will depend on whether you are using them solely for heat deletion, or whether you want to generate power using the heat. For max power one turbine will delete about 875 kDTU/s. If just deleting heat they can remove a lot more. zach123b
if you want to wing it, i'd put 5 steam turbines for the volcanoes, about half for the metal and half for the MV. i'm not sure about steam turbine to metal refinery but it seems 1-2 steam turbines per active metal refinery would be good if they're constant. maybe add some automation so the metal refineries would pause/stop if it got too hot, if power isn't a concern then don't worry, steam turbines can remove more kdtu/s but won't generate additional power. you'll need double the steam turbines if you plan to do self cooling or active cooling with an aquatuner per 6.5 or so steam turbines with water/polluted water, about 13 steam turbines with super coolant. according to the wiki, it's 2 steam turbines to 3 aquatuners with water, or 3 steam turbines to 2 aquatuners with super coolant so i'd guess around 16 steam turbines and a few aquatuners, someone else probably has a better way but this would be me winging it i'd put a good bit of water in there (100kg per tile, i think) with plenty of granite tempshift plates so you have a good thermal buffer, granite cause it has good SHC and TC for a rock and is plentiful (and it's what most people use for this situation) Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/133631-how-to-calculate-dtus-for-industrial-grid/#findComment-1494743 Share on other sites

degr
I never do some kind of complex calculations, just follow rule "if add 4 turbines no overheat? good. Not enough? add 2 more". I like to put molten slicksters into hot box, and I pump CO2 into it, so, I have around 10-15 kg of water per tile, because of high-pressure gas vent limits. Think my last game I have around 10 steam turbines for chamber with 4 iron refineries, plastic-production machines, kitchen (6 grill + 2 gas fireplaces) and 1 metal volcano.
