Rocket scanning

Recommended Posts

A telescope scans a radius of 3 tiles around it, a cartographic module enables rocket to travel to undiscovered hexes. A telescope inside the rocket cannot make the rocket travel to undiscovered hexes and a cartographic module cannot scan other adjacent tiles except the one it can will travel to. The cartographic module will partially reveal adjacent tiles every time it travels to an undiscovered tile.

I don't know if that description will make more sense... :???:

That said, if you have an active telescope inside the rocket and a dupe to operate it, then rockets are usually slow enough that you can just make the trip to an undiscovered hex by doing it in steps losing very little time. With the rocket module, you can just point the rocket at an undiscovered hex, but (I think) you will not get any other hexes discovered besides those the rocket travels through.

ok - the problem is my rocket with the big petroleum engine only goes 6 tiles - 3 there and 3 back. If I fly to the undiscovered loation that is 4 tiles one way with no way back. Do I need a better engine?

You can build 2 fuel tanks to double its range. You will also need twice the amount of oxidizer. Depending on what you are using as oxidizer, it might be enough to use 2 small solid oxidizer tanks instead of 1 large, so you can save up on height.

All engines are being rebalanced right now btw, and the changes should come out with the next patch (currently being tested on the testing branch).
