Onidotmoe
Algae could start growing in any pool of water that isn't sterile or doesn't have a sterile atmosphere above it and has a light source, it would consume C02 as it grows like algae irl. This wouldn't be solid algae and instead would be living growing algae represented by a green goo on the water's surface. Fish could eat the algae as it grows. minespatch
A natural change I would gradually like in a future playthrough! Might have to do with polluted water since fish are naturally in polluted water.
Slightquills
Perhaps have it function like the "building". So, over time it would eat CO2, and produce oxygen, but only in light, and have a byproduct of polluted water. It would naturally create it's own limits too, because it would rapidly spread to cover the surface so it would still require dupe labor to maintain it. kisukin
Or some sort of algae terrarium ( consumes dirt , CO2 and polluted water ; produces algae and have the same status of gass grass - sleeping- if not exposed to X lux )
