Make EVERYTHING that has ports flippable/rotatable.

Yes I know there's a mod for this but my focus here is that many entities such as pumps, containers, and such are purposely locked from rotation. Just because some buildings might look ugly when rotated doesn't mean their full potential should be compromised. Having to accept that sometimes piping is going to be less clean because you had to bridge or wrap them around isn't exactly a "challenge" either (I'm looking at you, liquid and gas containers). In fact, you could argue that it's one aesthetic tradeoff for another, and we wound up with the less functional one.

I'd actually really like to see some justification for not being able to flip every building that has ports.

If we could set a default rotation per building this might be useful. As it stands, most of the times it's just unnecessary. Water Tanks & Sieves are the only buildings I can think of need to have rotation, and the Sieve already does. Rocket insertion machines also rotate to connect to the closest launcher. Can you provide some examples of where rotation would be necessary, that it doesn't already exist?

water tank can already rotated as of the latest patch, i think.

I tried earlier this evening, the water and gas tanks wouldn't rotate.

Can you flood a Gas tank with water? I know you can flood both in gasses...

Yes! I'd love to see this happen.

The stuff that I use most, that can't be rotated are the gas/liquid tanks, gas/liquid pumps, Mec. Airlock(yes, they can rotate 90°, for automation, I'd be nice if they could rotate 270°), Transit tube access(nothing more then visual), Smart batt(again automation neatness), and that dang pitcher pump(visual).

Happy new year gang!

Major:

Both liquid and gas pumps and reservoirs

Sinks (they finally made lavatories flippable but not sinks...)

Metal refinery

Hot tub

Minor:

Buildings with only one asymmetrical port such as hydrogen and natural gas generators, fertilizer synthesizer, ethanol distiller, etc. There are many buildings in this category. NGG even has asymmetrical outputs I believe.

To add insult to injury the polymer press, which just has two ports in the middle tile, is flippable. It's mind boggling that this is flippable when many other buildings that would benefit from it are not.

Some buildings with pipe ports cant be flipped. So its just impossible to build a mirror-system, because the port is always on the same side. One is always in the way of something else.

I don't understand what you are trying to say. Any specific examples?

There are plenty of builds which must retain their handedness (as in, left/right handedness) no matter how they are built. Cooling loops for example always flow clockwise because of how the outputs from the Steam Turbine & Aquatuner default. It's not a big deal generally, but it can be annoying when trying to tetris two builds tight against each other.

99% of the time it doesn't matter what order the inputs/outputs actually are, you can just mirror your existing work to match the restrictive machine. However that 1% can be quite frustrating. I don't feel that adding mirror machines is necessary, and that it might even distract by making the default more complex. It's always possible to just rearrange the pipes to get things to work.

if you pay attention to flippable buildings, they shift over a tile's distance. don't know why - the power transformer, water seive, couple of others. all have this strange behaviour. their deconstruct icon is also occasionally off center.
