Mikerd
Hi! I think every ONI player uses a "liquid gas gate" when liquid blocks gas exchange between different rooms. This method is using because airlock doors not block gases when opened. It is abuse and it is SUCH annoying! You need construct step and bottler emptyfier. You need find and deliver sma-a-all amount of liquid (else you need to mop tons of water or oil or whatever you select for "gas gate") and you need intently control this construction. If liquid disappears - gases immediately mixes. And sometimes drop migrates without any reason and player gets panties in a bunch. But we use it because have no another method. Every player needs "true airlock" for using gas geysers (for energy producing or for farms) and chlorine rooms (for disinfection) and hydrogen stables (for dreckos) and others. Dear developers! Please add leakproof airlock into the game. For example, 3w x 2h-3h-2h door which required 400 kg of refined metal and consumps 300W for one cycle "go through". Dupes can go through, gases (incl. steam) and liquids cannot. Thanks a lot! PS. And excuse for my English, it's not native for me. Primalflower
Its not abuse of mechanics in the slightest and it was featured in the launch trailer for the game so i'd say its very much intended and encouraged by devs. There are also other ways to perform airlocks that involve gas pumps and many doors. The change that i would sooner request is for duplicants to not make any changes to their plans of action while waiting at a duplicant checkpoint, so you can use them to make dupes for example wait for an airlock to finish vacuuming all gases out of itself, as presently duplicants will abandon chores during that time due to the closed doors. Mikerd
Well, many-doors-and-pump decision is nearer to "realism". I see some minuses: 1) very slow pumping gas out or many pumps need to fast vacuuming - so we get either time wasting or power wasting 2) some unnecessarily complexity in game code (I may be wrong about it) 3) in late game player can get visco-gel and make leakproof airlock with it... but in late game it is not needed so much as at the start and mid-game! So I can get visco-gel and replace all many-pumps-airlocks for energy saving 4) reliable leakproof many-doors-pumps airlock scheme is very complicated because there are some automation elements for control - atmo sensor as minimum. And player need many time and materials for construction... So, maybe players need not this "realism"? And, many-doors-pumps decision can be realised as ONE block 3w-3h dimensions. Dupe enter in, doors close and block, "hidden pump" turns on and relocate gase to "hidden canister" in a few seconds, exit door opens and dupe exits. Dupe goes back, enters in airlock, "hidden pump" relocate another gas in another canister and vent out the first. Animation for dupe as suit checkpoint exclude image of suit, as variant. Or more simple: middle space of LP Airlock fullfilled by invisible visco-gel. Cheap and easy decision. Thanks. PS. And what for optimization? I played version 398142 on Core Quad Q6600 / 8 GB RAM without any freezes and FPS ~35-45. Installed update to 410209 and get some freezes at autosave. Install update to 437751 and get HUGE freezes: full stop for 5-10 seconds and total FPS decrease to 20-22. Now trying 440073... Can I do something to solve this problem except SSD installation (motherboard has no AHCI for it)? Does Klei have some plans about? Thanks a lot! nonchalant86
I am fine with liquid locks. However, I would like a powered insulated access hatch and leak-proof airlock combination building. It would be nice for making things like steam chambers accessible without using the full double liquid lock vacuum. Mikerd
I got new idea about LP-Airlock. We have "bridge mechanic" in the game, right? Resource comes in bridge at one edge and teleports to other. I think this method is applicable to leakproof airlock. Dupe in place of resource and "bridge" tag for this door's properties so we'll get simple and good decision. Nuclearmayhem
If you search airlock under the mods there are 3 results that give you options for airlocks. I personally use https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=2094698134&searchtext=airlock It requires power and delays the the dupes going through like a real airlock would. Note: build your power line first as the power plug is in the middle of the door. KonfigSys
+1. It will be great to have such airlock for high temp room (above 400C). In the mean time, three steel doors with vacuum in the middle work. However, frequently the automation fails (one side door stays opened breaking the seal). KonfigSys
with low temp above -30C and below 400C, visco-gel works fine, two with vacuum in the middle create not only air seal but temperature seal also. visco-gel works with steam room ok as long as you keep temperature above 100C (not allowing steam to condensate near the visco-gel lock. another simple solution is a transportation dock. In fact, two - inside and outside of the steam room. But it takes in-room space. Mikerd
I do not. I think LP Airlock mechanic needs to be implemented in game and speak about it. Good things realized in mods must be included in the game and mod using statistic can be additional reason. BTW, thanks for your good intention and for link. kezat
I much rather the system we have now then a single airlock block. We have so many fun and creative solutions to get the same effect, having a block to do that all for you is not the ONI way I feel. catrue
I also decided to insert my proposal. Although, like many, the mechanics of the hydraulic shutter (hydra lock) suits me and is time-tested. But the presence of a large number of debuffs with their constant passage causes a lot of difficulties for duplicates. I would like to receive from the developers a modified airlock mechanics with cool animation and a pleasant hiss when opening the door. Alternatively, you can make such a door take up more space and require rare resources for its construction that could be found on the map. For example, as a locker with a suit. As an example, a building recipe can be 400 steel, 200 ceramics + a unique "hydraulic controller" that you need to find well and requires 240 watts of energy when you open it. Delay when opening a couple of seconds. I think people would appreciate it. I apologize for the inaccuracy of the translation ... RonEmpire
If you want to use power to make an airlock, you could do the turbo method. That requires power and can allow you to move from one room to another sealed up. Its basically an airlock requiring power. Of course its not available when you start the game and requires a lot to obtain it. Same with the purple Gel. The liquid lock you're talking about isn't an abuse but a clever use of game mechanics. The game uses 1 tile element rule and the developers commented on many occasions that they don't intend to fix the 1 tile element rule. A lot of player's designed systems are based off of 1 tile element rules. It encourages a lot of creative systems that are player constructed, which makes this game so fun to play. The water lock method has its draw back, such as soppy wetness debuffs. Now, I do kind of agree with you though, that an real airlock would be useful for early on (than later in game provided by the turbo tube lift). but that opens up a lot of problems too. Such as if it was unpowered would you run into annoying things like gas leaks. or do the doors stop working.
