Extra useful if your closest shoreline is not a straight line. I'm sure other people have thought of this before, it's just something that took a while to occur to me, so when it did I thought it would be helpful to share with other people. Which is still fine, but could be a bit annoying to some. And if you already have your stalks planted in a row you can just "drag" your boat along the shore to smush them together just the same.
