Alternative auction day quests for the Spree

Recommended Posts

As it stands, there's only 1 auction day Spree quest: you go to the auction, Admiralty captured Nadan, you either fight em for a free auction item or sneak past and get Nadan's bane. At the same time, Admiralty has 3 quests: assassinate a visitor, defuse a situation with someone that dislikes/hates you, deal with someone that likes/loves you. All of Admiralty's quests can be completed using combat, negotiation, or both, and they're significantly more lenient than Spree's tedious fight 4 Admiralty goons at once.

I think it would've been cool if the current auction day quest, the rescue Nadan one, had an extra negotiation option that allowed us to scare away some of the Admiralty dudes. This type of negotiation/combat mix is very common in the Brawl, where you're given an opportunity to scare away your target's supporters to make the combat easier.

As for the alternative quests, one of them could have us arrive and find that the Spree captured an Admiralty goon that likes/loves you. You could be given the following resolution options:

  • negotiate to have the Admiralty dude freed (very hard, makes the Admiralty guy love you if they didn't already; you get a free auction item),
  • you're asked to execute the Admiralty guy (no combat, instant kill, guaranteed bane from the Admiralty faction, you get the guy's death loot; you get a free auction item),
  • you fight the Spree (regular combat against 3 Spree goons, you're aided by the Admiralty dude, makes the Spree you fight dislike/hate you; no free auction item).

Another quest could have us arrive at the meeting place before the hidden auction entrance when an Admiralty patrol stumbles upon you, led by a goon that dislikes/hates us. You could be given the following resolution options:

  • bribe em to walk away (expensive, further enhanced by the relationship; you get a free auction item),
  • scare them away (very hard intimidation, opponent starts with reduced resolve if you killed Oolo; you get a free auction item),
  • fight em (no escape/no surrender/isolated combat against 3 Admiralty goons, you're aided by a Spree goon that greets you when you arrive to the meeting spot; you get a free auction item if the Spree ally survives, you get noting if they die).

So today, after 200 hours of playing Griftlands, I saw the alternative Spree auction day quest, the one that involves Nadan warning you about an ambush. I gotta ask: what the hell? This is SO much easier than the quest where Nadan is captured and you have to fight 4 Admiralty dudes with the backing of a single lowly Spree. I mean, seriously, I just convinced Nadan to distract the enemy which left me to fight with...A SINGLE Admiralty dude! Just compare the difficulty levels: 1v1 or 1.5v4. It's insane!

You don't even have to do that. If you distract them yourself you're still left 1v1 with an Admiralty Captain
