Question about Rockets with research+cargo

Does anyone know if your rocket will bring back the rare resource of a planet if you do the following:

Send a rocket with a research AND a cargo module to a planet with the ???? resource not yet discovered. Will the rocket return the newly discovered resource the first time? Or do you always have to send a research module first and get the rare resource only a second trip around? 

Hope this explains the situation accurately.

It's not exactly what you asked but I sent a cargo only rocket before my research rocket and only retrieved the known material. 

I don't know if a cargo/research hybrid rocket will bring back undiscovered material. My guess is no because presumably the cargo pickup happens when it arrives at the planet but the discovery of the new material happens when it lands back at base.

As far as i know, the cargo module can only harvest whats known to be there. Know is it, after the rocket returns. You dont know whats there, until the rocket has returned. So the cargo module can just get, whats already know to be there.

I have tested this.  If you have 1 research and 1 cargo sent to a planet that has a ??? resource it can return with that resource.  Not sure if this always happens, but last run I did it worked.

@Eonshikeno I also tested it, but for me the newly discovered element did not show up in my cargo. I send it to a gas giant, discovered niobium but my cargo came back empty.

That's more like what I remember. But it's been a very long time ago.

I got my niobium on the second trip after i discovered it.

I have some insight into how it works. 

When you click on a planet it shows 5 Items to be researched. Some of them have (!!) Next to them. These are the ones which will unlock the mystery resources.

Each research module you send will complete one on the list from top to bottom. So if you have (!!) On the first 2 items, then sending 2 research modules will reveal them.

If it's on 1 and 3. Then you need atleast 3 research modules. If you send only 2 you will only unlock one ??? Resource.

If you also send a cargo with it, the items which would have been researched with the current rocket WILL be harvested.
