maradyne
...I was doing a thing and decided to take a quick detour through some of my concepts. 2
maradyne
So...I need a moonrock texture for a thing. And possibly another thing. Like some other items, default Moonrock-type items seem to use a base texture, with the black lines and shading drawn over that texture. Kinda like how in older cinematics, crinkled paper would be visible in a static position as the characters skin; an animator shortcut for textures and space filler as old as time. So, I did what I'd normally do: grab a few Moonrock items as reference, and start drawing something that looks similar. ..... And then I noticed that, in some cases, they aren't just similar; it seems to be the same texture shared between the items. It's there if you sit there long enough comparing the textures and moving/rotating them, trust me. ...so I wanted the texture, right? But I couldn't find the base version anywhere I looked. But I wanted the texture, right? Moonrock Texture speed edit.mp4 Spoiler Song is by SharaX! I've been meaning to try making speedpaints/speededits; this was a fun little experiment. So uh, yea. Mock base moonrock texture before lineart and shading: Toward the end, I showed where some of the items might have matched up...or in the case of the other side of the portal, definitely did. I didn't go all the way with editing them because...well, I really don't need this to be that exact; it was just interesting. Might expand this in the future?? But for the time being at least, I have what I need! Feel free to use it if you want. ALSO EDIT: Here's the more easily scalable version. It's in Photoshop format. maradyne
So, two things. One: Yay. On a related note... Two: The Moonrock texture is now vectors. ...that means that it can be resized without quality loss, if you have Photoshop. Here's the PSD file: Moonrock Texture.psd Three (of two??): I am rapidly running out of non-code parts of this project to work on. Spoiler four my computer's basic search function displays pictures of people smiling rather than just files with smile in their name, which is mildly disconcerting
maradyne
...so, fun tidbit: I've actually kept to a rule of doing a little bit for my moon-related project each week. Not enough to crowd out all else that I do, but enough to feel forward progress, you know? I couldn't properly trace one thing to my liking without a backlit drawing surface, so while I'm waiting for that mail delivery... I got to character quotes. ...and. Uh. maradyne
We interrupt this program to bring you: A couple reusable transparent lightningy bits. Yoink them if you please. ...also, they look really neat inverted for shadow-lightning purposes. maradyne
Hello! The forums are somewhat die, it would seem. ON THAT NOTE If you're ever looking for me, I'm most active in the Uncompromising Mode discord. Mostly in dev channels, so feel free to ping me if you're not in my DMs already! https://discord.gg/3ZQj8XbH I also have a Twitter where I post even less than here! https://twitter.com/Maradyne_ Warning: consumption of Maradyne's twitter follow button may have side effects including but not limited to: accidental exposure to Vtubers, Twitter bombarding your feed with whatever cursed abominations I've liked lately, and itching of the eyes and brain. Alright, so, since the last time we were here... Moon stuff, uh, does still exist. It got back-burner'd, like absolutely noone could have possibly expected. But that's mostly because...well. I shifted the design to an update for Uncomp. Following up on that, you may have seen me in like, one patch note for Uncomp. I've been helping here and there on updates for a while; mix of code, art, temp art, hacky bugfixes, quotes, a single joke item that's actually for testing something ect ect. I didn't work on this, but our last update's poster got RT'd by Klei, heheh. It came out pretty great @Gearless ! (I'm not 100% sure if that's the right Gearless LMAO) A few arty things from my side: A lot of iteration happens in dev. This was a concept for a menu animation! It looks more League of Legends than DST, but I still love it. The process was a lot of fun! Some of the assets (And Backgrounds!) are over here: https://www.pixiv.net/en/artworks/102466984 A suspiciously colored inhaler. Presently unused water trees. Hmm... Part of the logo! You can't see the jankyness of the initials when it's in the actual logo, because we only use this one for small stuff; we have the full text for elsewhere. But I'll always know it's there. um Boat corks are a thing! ...it looks better on the boat. Unused item form: That's all for now. More eventually. Try Uncomp! Whatever you're into, Wathom is cool and fun and jumps on things and rips their faces off and its neat. bye for now
