Can you help me figure out why the pip isn't planting?

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm more or less familiar with the mechanics behind pips and I can't figure out why this pip isn't planting there. I've turned on agricultural overlay so you can see clearly that there are no other plants nearby.

The seeds are laying on the ground.

it can also be temperature related. I had Pips refusing to plant mirth leaf seeds because it was around 10 C where i wanted to plant them.

If temperature range is way outside that needed of the plant to prosper the pips don't seem to plant.

Doesn't look like that would be the problem in this case since it does not lok like you are close to a cold biome

Edit: could also be to warm for oxyferns I guess

Thanks, didn't know this. I was able to reproduce this and found that pips will plant between -55C and 125C.

The temperature range seems to depend on the type of plant from my experience. For example if the tile is +5 degrees I don't think it will plant mirth leaf, but it will plant for example sleet wheat. I haven 't really experimented with this to find temperature ranges but I have noticed this in survival when using pips to set up natural farms or natural reserves..

I ve also noticed something strange I did not know previously in my last playthrough. If the pip plant a mirth leaf at the low temperature range and temperature drops to even colder. The mirth leaf will not only turn brown but can actually "un plant" itself and turn back into a seed.

Right again.

-55C to 125C for Bristle Blossom (-50, +95 relative)

-155C to 85C for Sleet Wheat (-100, +80 relative)

I see no obvious pattern. By the way it's atmospheric temperature, and the tile temperature doesn't matter.

Decoratives seem to unplant even in pots when their body temperature gets far out of range.
