Petroleum Generator stops working if you pipe it both Ethanol and Petroleum

Contents: 1200mg of Petrol, 20kg of Ethanol

I have plenty of Petroleum in my pipes but it won't go through because an Ethanol packet is blocking the way. And the ethanol packet can't get into the generator because it's full (20kg of Ethanol). Got me confused for a bit and had to redo my piping but finally realized this was the culprit. Since you can't "Empty Contents" you'd have to deconstruct and construct the generator again, which takes a looong time.

Has someone entered this into the bug tracker?

I looked it up. It's entered and the devs haven't said whether it's a bug or intented operation.

This won't work either.  For some reason, you can watch the storage deplete entirely and disappear from the list, then a split second later it will show it again with a very small amount.  This small amount of fuel remains until the building is deconstructed, and prevents the other type of fuel from being used.

Been there, bought this t shirt only recently.

You need to filter the two fluids out and then deconstruct / rebuild the gens.  There is no other solution unfortunately.

I run two separate gen systems for this exact reason.
