Feedback: Gourmet Trait is actually BAD not good.

Recommended Posts

The gourmet trait  reduces the morale value of food by -1   and provides 3+ cooking which isn't that big of a deal considering the negative effect of -1 morale.
Long term having a -1 morale on food is bad.

Just feedback.  Maybe tweak it  (remove the morale) to provide more  bonus.  or a free automatic interest to cooking.  Or increase the 3+ to 10+ to make it worth the trade off.

EDIT
Maybe as a suggestion,   instead of Morale -1 on food.    Gourmet trait GIVES a morale boost  (temporary buff)  whenever he is performing COOKING.

This makes more sense.

oh, good idea all food he makes is +1 to food quality, that would be awesome!

while I like the idea   like button there.   I think this is only going to make the game a bit more complicated in terms of tracking which food he made  from the ones made by somebody that's not traited.   and how to store that into the system  (storage) distinguishing it and in the consumable.s

By the way, how is -1 food morale different from constant -1 morale? I can only think of it mattering when dupes skip meals to gorge later.

Making gourmets create better food would not be good - it would just make not-gourmets never be able to get good at cooking.

Nowadays +cooking is pretty OK because it saves on natural gas. The tiny bonus from the trait is way too small to matter (and be worth the -morale), but just bumping the bonus would work.

Also, interior designer is another bad trait that masquerades as good. Not as bad as gourmet, but still bad.

You're right.    But I think the difference might be  when they're stressed  and they're a binge eater.  they'll end up getting more -1 morale since they're consuming more food.   overall   -1 morale for food (gourmet)  is a NEGATIVE trait overall.   the 3+ gain is just absolutely trash of a skill gain cuz any dupe will eventually get that over a period of time just cooking something or just picking up a dupe with cook interest and skill cooking is good enuf.

i thought it was that when they eat a pepperbread, they get only +12 morale instead of +16

which is why "No taste" is so good, since they can eat stuffed berry and get +16 morale instead of +12

You're right.    Food Quality -1   makes it even worst.  long term  because  its not just -1 morale  but a -4 morale (on best quality).

EDIT:   They recently changed it in the game   to be -1  or + 1 food morale bonus  FIXED.

The traits aren't food quality -1 or + 1  anymore

(I'm assuming now that  No Taste is +17 instead of   +16.
Since they added Table Salt  (+1 Morale)

Idk, +3 cooking is only effective in the early to mid game because of the fact cooking skill has a cap and someone with +3 cooking will just cap earlier than someone without the bonus. But once you reach late game gourmet is kinda pointless.

You sure about that?

From what I've seen, traits are applied after the cap. Which is why anemic dupes never become worth taking - they'll always lag behind.
