biopon
Can we please have unrestricted zoom and scroll turned on all the time, not just in screenshot mode? The right side of the screen being inaccessible for build/mine/etc orders due to the asset list covering it up is probably the biggest reason for this ask, but in general zooming out and then in is just such a nice way to navigate the map. I'ts fine to restrict scrolling to the discovered part of the map, but once everything's been discovered, I really don't like the neutronium border telling me it MUST be at the edge of my screen. Zarquan
Agreed. I can't build on the far right side of the screen without doing some very uncomfortable maneuvers with the camera because of the materials lists. WeSaidMeh
I agree. 1. Let us zoom out more. I have a 40inch screen with 4k resolution and I'd love to zoom out a bit more instead of having those huge elements. You might argue that it's a performance thing, but I regularly work around this by switching to screenshot mode, than zomming out, then switching back without any performance issues. Maybe introduce a graphics option or at least an .ini setting that lets advanced players tweak the zoom range in some way. 2. Building at the edge of the map is a hassle. Please let us pan the camera a bit outside of the map border (maybe half a screen). It's possible in screenshot mode, so why not in regular mode? Etiam
@biopon @Zarquan @WeSaidMeh FreeCamera mod from my modpack already allows both for panning out of the world borders and zooming out to see the whole map. No need to use debug or screenshot mode Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/102968-qol-do-away-with-camera-restrictions/#findComment-1156393 Share on other sites

No need to use debug or screenshot mode I do appreciate moddability of the game and the existence of a modding community, but I would prefer this to not be an issue with the vanilla game. Most of my mods were made to fill in gaps in the game, so they are basically a list of what I think is missing (and what I a managed to solve) Locked zoom is a pain when we have such a big map. biopon
Just now, Etiam said: FreeCamera mod from my modpack Yup, very tempted to use mods, precisely because of this particular item. And your work is very much appreciated. But with the dev branch being as crashy as it is I'm trying my damnedest to make sure nothing upsets it. Hopefully that all changes next week. But I'd still like to have a less fussy camera in the base game. I didn't play much in the dev branch (QoL2), but I'm pretty sure they don't interfere much, you can always use just one or a few simple mods to keep the risk to minimum Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/102968-qol-do-away-with-camera-restrictions/#findComment-1156401 Share on other sites

Well, don't get me wrong here, I appreciate this very much. But: I'd rather see this fixed in the game than installing random files from the internet into my game. Also, IMHO, mods should extend the game or alter game mechanics instead of fixing flaws in the game. Game flaws should be fixed by the game devs, and that's why we have early access and this forum exists When the game is final and mods are using official APIs and can be installed using the Steam workshop which allows some reputation to be built up, we can be best friends Edit: Your mods look really great. When I'll stumble upon them on an official way, you better have a donate option ready. Game flaws should be fixed by the game devs, and that's why we have early access and this forum exists Its far from some "random files from the internet" - all the source code is available on my GitHub repository, so you can see yourself if there is anything wrong with it (and others would point it out if there would be anything - that's the beauty of the open-source). if you don't trust the compiled assemblies you can compile them yourself, all you need should be a Windows and Visual Studio. Well some of my mods add new mechanics, but mods fixing "flaws in the game" are very common. You can't really compare them, as ONI is in early access, but most of the Bethesda games were fixed by the modders and first Dark Souls was made playable on PC thanks to mods as well. 4 hours ago, WeSaidMeh said: When the game is final and mods are using official APIs and can be installed using the Steam workshop which allows some reputation to be built up, we can be best friends Not much will change by then. I don't think any official API will provide more possibilities than we have now, only installation will become easier - well, one click instead of downloading and placing them manually, but it's currently not a rocket science either. 4 hours ago, WeSaidMeh said: Edit: Your mods look really great. Well I suggest you check them out, there's nothing to lose, and you can remove them easily if something stops working. You can also remove some of them if you don't like what they do. Donate option (Patreon) is already up on my GitHub repo Link to comment https://forums.kleientertainment.com/forums/topic/102968-qol-do-away-with-camera-restrictions/#findComment-1156900 Share on other sites
gredalusiam
I also wouldn't mind being able to hold down shift or something and scroll faster. I know we can set bookmarks, but sometimes you're scrolling somewhere nearby but not near enough that you want to wait.
