So i thought of an underground scanner that wherever you place it reveals surrounding tiles (radius 1-2 tiles) per turn. Digging some places is indeed a bother (aka, under magma), but perhaps instead of machime it can be a job/perk that grants either visibility range or command to 'explore'.
