Any luck with mole farm in Hamlet?

Has anyone had an luck with a mole farm in Hamlet?  I collected about 30 moles and put them in a cave cleft, but they aren't behaving as they should.  As you can see in the attached picture, I have lots of borrows, but only a few moles actually moving around.  I dug up over 10 mole borrows before realizing, I wasn't seeing the moles come out so I'm guessing I lost those moles now as well.  I'm thinking I should be seeing all those moles running around down there, but I only see 4.  Before I logged out, the moles just sat there on their borrow.  

 

Any suggestions?

I’d try it on the surface. Things are weird in those caves.

I hate moleworms, I unearth his burrow, then kill him, and he reappears a few days later, I had eliminated them all near my base, and they reappear, is it moleworms who created the burrows, or the burrows that breed moleworms?

I meant "burrow", sorry

Well if that then you have to kill the moleworm and destroy his burrow before he creates a new burrow / or before the burrow spawns a new moleworm
