Lag on servers

Recommended Posts

Hello, i'm facing troubles with servers on DST. I even can't play it anymore because of this, let's go to the facts.

Every server I enter I can't move, it takes littleraly 50 seconds for my action happens, and in the server list/information it says that my connection is Good and that my ping is around 40ms. I know that is not the best of the world, but during my internet test I discovery that my ping is actually 20ms.

Sometimes I play it -or try to- with my friend and he complains sometimes too. We not live so far from each other, and his ping is by 11ms. Thats happens in Dedicate Servers, in Lan Party (we try once) and wen  I or He create a host.

I can't live with that question in my live: What's going on? Is my internet connection that's sucks or there it's a problem with the game or something like that.

I wait for replys, thank you.

Sorry by my English, I'm not fluent

Well, my pc it's a low-end but run DST without struggles -just when save- so I think thats not the cause. I'll keep doing more tests with my internet and with other games also.

This also happens to a friend, and he has a low-end pc that he sometimes struggles with, don't know if thats your case, because he has a good internet also.

So this may happen because the ram gb and other specs?

50s is ridiculously bad. Is it consistently exactly 50s, or occasional spikes of that bad, or what? If it's occasional the culprit is likely packet loss/bufferbloat, which comes from your network being congested. That could be your wireless (if you're using wireless) or your internet itself (if other programs are maxing out your bandwidth). There are a lot of resources available to diagnose this kind of issue if that's the case.

I dunno anything about network magic, but I can try offer some tips for low-end pc if that is the problem, like reducing workload of your computer by closing all other programs, updating your pc's drivers, reducing mods used, clearing up memory space, especially if you have a bunch of other games, and so on.  And yeah, how do other online games run on your pc then, especially more busy ones such as TF2 or such? It's a good way to pinpoint of the problem lying in how your pc runs DST depending on how well it runs other games, online and offline.

(Personal experience - I only got my current laptop last year, and was disappointed to find it ran DST horribly; I quit a few Forge games in shame after experiencing your kind of lagspikes in hectic teamfights and even approaching a busy base in the normal game proved to be too much for it and would cause similar 30s delay lag. Somehow though... it seems to have become much better as I played it. Maybe my laptop got better at running it? Maybe some Windows updates or some manual driver updates I did improved it? I have no idea, but even if it's not usually perfect it's really improved much better since)

In many times that I counted it takes 50 sec at least, sometimes takes a minute or something like that. Always when I'll play I turn off all programs that could consume internet. But, just for precaution, I'll do more tests today.

Yeah, I mean it's very depressing have to quit the game because you can't play it, I've tested, how you recommend, TF2 and for my surprise no connection problems, when I press 'w' for example the action happens without lagging.

I'm almost giving up play DST, It's a incredible game and when someone ask me what it's my favorite game I'll always say it the Klei games.
