But with the current pumps and pipes it feels like an eternity until the areas are buildable. How about bigger pipes? They could hold like 100kg per tile and using special liquid vents and valves for output and connections with the normal pipes. Downsides could be that you can't build anything except tile over it or like heavy wires you can't run it through tiles at all. If pipes could be bigger then why not pumps too? Or upgrade a pump into a stronger one. Upgrades could also be used for storage containers. Pumps after you research them. 3. In addition to the things you suggested, I'd also give them a big decor penalty like the heavi-watt wires.
