Basic questions about the installation of Don't Starve

1. The licensing system seems convoluted and not explained very well. Where can I get the game(All storefronts)? So far I see HumbleBundle, Steam, GoG, and Chrome (how does that work exactly?). Did I miss any store fronts? What benefits or advantages do different storefronts have over the others.

2. How big is the download? I know the install is listed as around 500MB but how big is the install file and is it downloaded as one file or via an installer?

3. Does the site or installer allow downloads to be paused and resumed later? Can I use a download manager or ftp client?

4. Is the game sold on the Chrome store smaller or about the same size as the stand alone version?

Thanks for reading. :)

1. The Chrome version has been discontinued and the GOG version kind of lives in its own little universe, but you get access to both the Steam and DRM-Free versions if you buy it on Humble or Steam (the Steam version gives you a CD key you can use to access a DRM-free download page on Humble).

2. Looks like the Humble DRM-free download is 252MB. I'm not sure what the size of the Steam download is, but I imagine it's similar.

3. The Steam version's download can be paused and resumed whenever you wish, and there's an option to download the Humble version with a torrent client.

4. Since the Chrome version has been discontinued, I don't think it's sold on Chrome at all anymore.

Honestly, I'd say your better off getting steam then anything, I play standalone, since around the time i heard about this game I never used steam, but with all of the nice features that steam has its the best platform for PC gaming atm, but thats just my opinion

The Humble Bundle storefront widget thing.

Fellow Humble buyer here, so I'll help you out with details.

First off, go to the link where you  get the game. If you haven't already done so, make a Humble Account and make sure you are logged in.

Now claim that page as yours clicking that upper-right corner link.

Not only is it easier this way to go back to re-download it should there be problems, if you ever get more Humble Store/Bundle items (and dang they have some sweet sales for both,) you can add them to your page by claiming those links too!

This "Humble Library" includes any "extra" content (including additional Steam keys, soundtrack downloads, etc.) It even lists differently as Topics  (but all on one webpage) what is in your "Humble Library" and all your Humble Bundle Purchases. So if you bought a Bundle but haven't installed everything/have Steam-only games you want to re-apply you can click the Bundles/Widget Purchases there and take care of it too in one page!

(Oh, and save that link from now on of course!)

Next, from that claimed page, download the game. if you are (also or solely) using Steam, click (possibly instead if Steam only and no Standalone wanted) the "Click here for your Steam Key" (it could be you have to Click Don't Starve under Widget Purchases)  for the Don't Starve Steam Key. Go to Steam and Add a new game, entering that key. All updates this way are Automatic (while the Standalone will use an Updater to check for updates.)

If this still does not work, please contact Humble Bundle's Support as the issue is not Klei's problem but the Humble site's FTP Authentication to you. Humble Support can be troubleshooted  about this problem, the closest being here and here.

Generally speaking, if the steps I gave don't work, before using the "contact us" email link, I'd recommend choosing the "forgot my password" steps, make a new password, and try again. Should that fail, try contacting them at their link if the online help and that didn't cut it. Don't forget

When drafting your email please have the Transaction ID ready for the download page in question, this begins with “X” and can be found in your payment account history.
