Rocket Stranded in Orbit

Electroely
  • Branch: Preview Branch Version: Windows Fixed

Since the rework to rockets (a couple updates ago), I had a rocket of mine get consitently stranded in orbit of its destination. It seems like it reached 0 tiles of range right before landing.

Normally, rockets are able to land when in orbit without any fuel. The checklist calculates with this assumption too; this is what it showed me before I launched my now-stranded rocket:

(I was only trying to do a one-way trip, so this was fine)

The moving animation plays (This screenshot was taken before the turning animation fully finished) but the rocket is still marked as stranded. Trying to land the rocket from the rocket platform produces the same result.

Steps to Reproduce

1. Have a rocket with just enough fuel or oxidizer to reach its destination
2. Launch it
3. Notice how it can't land on its target plat; it will be marked as stranded before it does.

User Feedback

A developer has marked this issue as fixed. This means that the issue has been addressed in the current development build and will likely be in the next update.

I managed to lose a rocket in planet... never landed Needy 2_.sav Launched, changed my mind, changed course to planet, rocket never lands.

That's even weirder. I was able to change my mind on a rocket launch just today (I loaded an old save after this happened and just decided to stay on this planet and colonize it until the bug is fixed) and it worked fine.

Have the same problem. Started with the 2nd most recent testing branch, nothing changed with today's branch. Fortunately I haven't managed to lose a rocket in a planet yet.

The second one seems fine (Launched -landed- relaunched). I have no idea what happened to the first one :???:

I have the same kind of problem. I left orbit of a planet and selected the destination just fine with no issues. Now I look back and see this. Reloaded and it was at the next tile over and said 26s to landing. Then about to land it says stranded instead. It's a 6 tile trip and 6 tile distance from right planet to left planet orbit and return to right planet. image.png.72366b4bbe31133ba15b2ccfd376652c.pngimage.thumb.png.23b092772e19d3fbf6d1cdef9922159f.png

Here's something weird I noticed:

The planet is only one tile away, yet the estimated arrival time is twice as much as it should be (and yes, I did check that the rocket wasn't in autopilot mode).

Can confirm in testing build EX1 510-460438-D as of 2021-04-17

I tested using a petroleum rocket having a range of 12 tiles. Multiple flights (I forgot once) out 6 tiles and back resulted in the rocket being stranded in orbit. There is a 'Land here' option on the planetary rocket pad confirming it is in orbit but it shows as stranded. On one attempt the stranded rocket had just enough petroleum and oxidizer for the round trip. On the second attempt oxidizer, but not petroleum, was reloaded so my second stranded rocket did have oxidizer while stranded. I wasn't setup to test the flip side, no oxidizer but available fuel.
